Job Description
SecureStrux is seeking a Project Accountant to join our Accounting & Finance team. The Project Accountant will serve as a key connection point between Accounting, Operations, Program Management, Contracts, and other functional teams to ensure project financial information is accurate, complete, and timely.
This role will be responsible for the accounting and financial administration of projects from initial setup through completion, including project structure, funding, contract modifications, labor and expense coding, invoicing support, revenue recognition, project financial analysis, and ongoing reconciliation.
The ideal candidate has meaningful project accounting experience, is comfortable managing multiple larger-dollar and longer-duration projects simultaneously, and enjoys working through complexity. This person should be curious, process-oriented, systems-minded and comfortable identifying missing pieces, asking questions and building better processes as the organization continues to grow.

The Work You’ll Do
- Work collaboratively as a member of the Accounting & Finance team supporting the finance leadership team
- Serve as the primary accounting liaison between Accounting, Program Management, Operations, Contracts, and other functional teams
- Own project setup and ongoing project maintenance within BigTime and other accounting/project management systems
- Review contract awards, modifications, change orders, funding changes, option years, and project extensions to ensure accounting, billing, and operational systems remain aligned
- Maintain accurate project structures, project codes, billing configurations, and financial information throughout the life of each project
- Track project budgets, actual spend, labor utilization, remaining funding, and overall project financial performance
- Support project-level revenue recognition, including accrued revenue, unbilled revenue, deferred/unearned revenue, work in progress, and other project-related accounting entries
- Work directly with Project Managers to ensure employee labor, subcontractor costs, travel, and other project expenses are charged to the appropriate project and task
- Review expense reports for proper project coding, documentation, and reimbursement treatment
- Support timely and accurate customer invoicing and ensure all billable labor, expenses, and other charges are appropriately captured
- Identify project-level accounting or operational issues before they become month-end close issues
- Prepare and support project-related journal entries and adjusting journal entries as needed
- Assist with reconciliations between BigTime, QuickBooks, and other financial/project systems
- Support monthly close activities related to project accounting, revenue, invoicing, labor, and project profitability
- Prepare project-level financial analysis, including budget-to-actual results, margin analysis, funding utilization, and forecast-to-complete information
- Assist with EACs and ETCs for larger or longer-duration projects as appropriate
- Work with Project Managers and leadership to identify financial risks and opportunities across the project portfolio
- Support forecasting and financial planning by providing accurate project-level information
- Help standardize project accounting workflows and reduce unnecessary manual processes and project-level nuance
- Develop and maintain project accounting procedures and SOPs
- Assist with system improvements, ERP implementation, and future-state process design
- Support internal and external audit requests related to project accounting and project financial information
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- 5-7+ years of relevant project accounting, project finance, or comparable accounting experience
- Demonstrated experience managing the accounting and financial administration of multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience working with larger-dollar and/or longer-duration projects with multiple phases, modifications, or funding changes
- Strong understanding of project accounting concepts, including revenue recognition, accrued revenue, unearned/deferred revenue, WIP, and project profitability
- Experience with project setup, billing, invoicing, labor charging, expense allocation, and project reconciliation
- Experience preparing or supporting journal entries and adjusting journal entries
- Strong understanding of how project activity ultimately flows into the general ledger and financial statements
- Experience working directly with Project Managers, Operations, and other cross-functional teams
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience working across multiple accounting, ERP, or project management systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- High attention to detail with a strong commitment to financial accuracy and data integrity
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Curious and proactive mindset with the ability to work effectively when information or processes are not immediately clear
- Ability to independently research issues, gather information, and bring problems through to resolution
- Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and ability to operate comfortably within a complex project environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field; comparable project accounting experience may be considered in lieu of a specific degree
- Experience within government contracting, professional services, technology, or another project-based organization
- Experience with BigTime
- Experience with QuickBooks Desktop and/or QuickBooks Online
- Experience with DCAA-compliant accounting or timekeeping environments
- Familiarity with FAR requirements
- Experience supporting ERP or financial system implementations
- Experience with EACs, ETCs, project forecasting, and project margin analysis
- Experience developing or improving accounting procedures and project workflows
Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000 (some flexibility on top-end of salary range for the right candidate)
