Job Description

IT Specialist

Cherokee Nation Government Solutions, LLC is seeking an experienced IT Specialist to support Cherokee and the U.S. Air Force civil engineer architect and engineering services (A&AS) support at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana. This position will assist in managing the planning, programming, design, construction, real property, and environmental programs for locations managed by Malmstrom, AFB.

The IT Specialist installs, configures, maintains, troubleshoots, and improves computer systems, servers, networks, software, and associated infrastructure. The position applies Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of the Air Force (DAF) cybersecurity, network, and systems-administration standards to maintain secure, reliable, and available services for customers.

As required by our governmental client, this position requires an active SECRET clearance to be considered .

A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide intermediate-level systems administration and technical operations support consistent with DoD Cyberspace Workforce Framework (DCWF) work roles IT451 Systems Administrator (Intermediate) and IT411 Technical Operations Specialist (Intermediate).
  • Install, configure, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, recover, adjust, modify, and improve IT and OT systems, equipment, software, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Administer and maintain servers, workstations, operating systems, network-connected equipment, user accounts, privileged accounts, and commercial off-the-shelf/government off-the-shelf (COTS/GOTS) software, as assigned.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, configuration, and operational status; identify corrective and preventive actions to improve reliability and performance.
  • Diagnose and resolve conventional computer, network, software, hardware, and peripheral-equipment issues while minimizing service interruptions to customers.
  • Support maintenance and operation of facility environments and infrastructure required to sustain IT and OT systems, including associated equipment spaces, power, cooling, connectivity, and physical system dependencies, as assigned.
  • Apply DoD and Air Force computer, network, cybersecurity, configuration-management, and technical-operations standards, policies, procedures, and techniques.
  • Document incidents, service requests, troubleshooting actions, system configurations, maintenance activities, corrective actions, and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with government personnel, cybersecurity teams, network operations personnel, vendors, and other technical stakeholders to resolve system and service issues.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, user guidance, and knowledge articles.
  • Provide customer support and train users on new systems, software, equipment, and established procedures, as assigned.
  • Communicate factual, technical, and procedural information clearly through reports, ticket updates, correspondence, briefings, and verbal interactions.
  • Perform other systems administration, IT operations, technical support, and CES program-support duties as assigned.


Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • SECRET Clearance
  • Must meet and maintain applicable DoD Cyberspace Workforce Framework (DCWF) requirements under DoDM 8140.03 for IT451 Systems Administrator (Intermediate) and IT411 Technical Operations Specialist (Intermediate).
  • Must possess one of the following qualifying education or certification credentials:
    • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field; or
    • CompTIA Cloud+; or
    • Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP); or
    • CompTIA Security+; or
    • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP).

Must comply with applicable requirements of DAFMAN 17-1305, including:
  • Signing the Formal Statement for Assigned Cybersecurity Responsibilities in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Signing a Privileged User Agreement for each assigned privileged account.
  • Authorizing release of DoD-approved foundational certification data to DoD when certification data is used to meet foundational requirements.
  • Completing and maintaining at least 20 hours of continuing education annually, as required by DoDM 8140.03.
  • Reporting continuing-education status in the format and manner prescribed by the Contracting Officer.
  • Obtaining and maintaining required residential or operating-system training unless the contract specifies otherwise.
  • Must be able to maintain any required system access, account privileges, cybersecurity training, and certification status required to perform assigned duties.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting systems administration, IT operations, network operations, technical support, help desk, infrastructure support, cybersecurity operations, or a related IT discipline.
  • Working knowledge of DoD and Air Force computer, network, cybersecurity, and technical-operations standards, policies, procedures, and techniques.
  • Experience supporting servers, workstations, operating systems, networked devices, and COTS/GOTS software in a business, government, or enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge of facility environments and infrastructure necessary to support IT and OT systems, including operational dependencies such as connectivity, power, cooling, equipment spaces, and physical access controls.
  • Demonstrated skill in troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to resolve routine technical problems and minimize customer service interruptions.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and support computer systems, equipment, operating systems, application software, networks, and related peripherals.
  • Ability to analyze computer network, hardware, software, and system-performance issues; identify root causes; and develop effective, economical corrective or preventive solutions.
  • Ability to create and maintain complete, accurate technical documentation and provide effective training and technical guidance to users.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain factual and procedural information to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple service requests, maintenance activities, incidents, and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and customer-service focus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a controlled, secure, mission-focused environment.
