Position Summary
Odyssey is recruiting to fill a Senior Avionics Engineer position supporting the WIB CV-22 Osprey Division, at Patuxent River, MD. WIB is part of the ISR/SOF Directorate (AFLCMC/WI), who is responsible for equipping our warfighters to win the fight. The Directorate executes a $22 billion acquisition portfolio developing, producing, testing, modifying, fielding, and supporting Air Force ISR and SOF platforms, and related sub-systems.

Responsibilities
Duties include, but not limited to:
- Utilize multidisciplinary engineering expertise to develop system concepts, assess technical trade-offs, and evaluate alternative design approaches.
- Assist in defining, translating, and validating weapon system and subsystem requirements into system specifications and airworthiness criteria.
- Support development of system performance objectives, integration requirements, and resource estimation for design, development, and sustainment activities.
- Conduct analyses of proposed designs, engineering changes, and program impacts to ensure performance, cost efficiency, and technical feasibility.
- Perform modeling, simulation, and survivability analyses to identify risks, OSS&E issues, and integration challenges.
- Provide avionics engineering support for integrated systems, embedded software, diagnostics, electronic support equipment, and mission-critical software releases.
- Review system architectures, ICDs, drawings, and specifications to ensure interoperability, compliance, and adherence to MIL standards (e.g., MIL-HDBK-516, MIL-STD-1553, RS-232, ARINC 610).
- Provide technical guidance for propulsion system development, integration, performance assessment, and sustainment planning.
- Support engineering reviews, TIMs, design reviews, configuration boards, and working groups, preparing technical summaries, recommendations, and documentation.
- Assist in developing source-selection materials, acquisition strategy plans, technical evaluation criteria, PWS inputs, RFP content, and CDRL recommendations.
- Maintain and support requirements management using tools such as DOORS and RSA to develop architectures, traceability, and decision-support products.
- Participate in special studies evaluating emerging technologies, state-of-the-art assessments, and modernization initiatives for SOF weapon systems.
- Support lifecycle engineering activities across R&D, production, sustainment, deployment, operations, and divestiture for avionics and weapons systems.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, briefings, feasibility assessments, risk analyses, and documentation supporting airworthiness, OSS&E, and system certification.
- Apply DoDD 5000-series acquisition policies and AFMC/AFLCMC engineering processes across SOF engineering and integration tasks.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Citizenship: US Citizen
Clearance: Secret
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's or Doctorate Degree in a related field and 10 years of experience in the respective technical / professional discipline being performed, 5 years of which must be in the DoD.
- OR Bachelor's degree in Engineering (ABET) and 12 years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed, 5 of which must be in the DoD.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in defining, translating, and validating system requirements, specifications, and architectures using tools like DOORS and RSA.
- Knowledge of integrated avionics, embedded systems, mission-critical software, diagnostics, and electronic support equipment.
- Ability to perform airworthiness determinations, evaluate system safety, and apply standards such as MIL-HDBK-516 and MIL-STD-882.
- Hands-on familiarity with MIL-STD-1553, RS-232, ARINC 610, interface control documentation, and other defense acquisition engineering standards.
- Skill in conducting technical analyses, design trade studies, survivability assessments, and system modeling/simulation.
