NAVIGATOR (INSTRUCTOR)

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is this is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) officer position which serves as a navigator instructor providing ground and airborne navigational flight instruction to assigned Reservists in unit type aircraft. Position requires accomplishing a variety of administrative duties related to flight instruction and mission accomplishment such as scheduling, squadron operations management, combat mission planning, and training. Additionally, provides training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein.

DUTIES:

1. Position serves as Instructor navigator/CSOs, Examiners, and Standardization Evaluation Examiners. Responsible for aircraft qualification and requalification, instrument flight and tactical/airlift. mission training of assigned or attached navigator/CSOs. Performs duties of navigator/CSO to accomplish assigned missions.
2. Reviews mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information. Participates in mission planning, preparation and filing of flight plan, and crew briefing. Ensures aircraft is preflighted, inspected, loaded, equipped, and manned for mission. Navigates aircraft to accomplish assigned mission. Operates available navigation systems. Conducts training of crewmembers.
3. Ensures operational readiness of crew by conducting mission specific training. Develops plans and policies, monitors operations, and advises commanders. Assists commanders and performs staff functions related to this specialty.
4. Interviews navigator CSOs assigned or attached to determine backgrounds and training in various types of aircraft, especially in the type of aircraft assigned to the unit.
5. Schedules navigator/CSOs as to type, phase and degree of flying training required and scheduling individual navigator/CSOs for extra flying hours when determined necessary.
6. Conducts a continuous and aggressive flying safety program and maintains a complete file on flying safety matters for the education of all assigned aircrew.

• This position is designated as a mobility position. Incumbent must be willing to move/transfer to another unit/location on a lateral or promotion as directed by HQ AFRC.

Qualifications

THIS IS AN AIR RESERVE TECHNICIAN OFFICER POSITION.
This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Officer position located at 96 AIRLIFT SQ with the military rank of Lt Col, AFSC: 012M3B. For questions concerning military eligibility please contact the Air Force Reserve Qualification Center at 1-800-257-1212.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Supplement to Qualification Standards for Air Reserve Technicians (ART), approved August 2017.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: No specific length of experience required. The qualifications of Navigator (Instructors) in an Air Force active duty and Reserve force are directly related to the completion of prerequisite training and number of flying hours rather than years of experience.

MINIMUM FLYING HOURS: Must have been awarded or qualify for a USAF Navigator or Combat Systems Officer rating and hold a valid aviation service aeronautical order. Minimum of 1,000 Total Military Flight Time and instructor qualified in unit aircraft.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of exercise planning, inspection criteria, deployment and employment processes.
2. Knowledge of the mission, organization, programs, and functions of the unit and a thorough understanding of their relationship to Air Force systems. 3. Skill and ability in oral and written communications to prepare and deliver briefings, lead discussions, motivate personnel, conduct workshops and seminars and prepare project and staff reports.
4. Knowledge of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to analyze, review, and assess unit readiness.
5. Skill in identifying and analyzing compliance issues and developing recommendations to resolve substantive issues.
6. Knowledge of interrelationship of data gathered from units with different missions in developing measurements to improve organizational effectiveness.

Other Significant Facts:

1. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Officer position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA).
2. Must be a mission-ready, rated aircrew member on flying status, and instructor qualified, in the assigned unit. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass standardization/evaluation/certification examinations which consist of both written tests and actual flight performance to demonstrate flight knowledge and abilities required of the position.
3. Aircrew and management duties include stress (both mental and physical), exposures to extreme hot and cold temperatures, gravity forces of three in non-fighters and nine + in fighters.
4. As necessary, to meet special or essential unscheduled activities, may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty with brief advance notice.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
