Job Description

Summary

Chenega Services & Federal Solutions (CSFS), an SBA-certified 8(a) Small Disadvantaged Business, has extensive experience providing program management, IT, and professional services support to U.S. Federal agencies. CSFS is seeking an experienced Section 508 Compliance Specialist (Part Time) to support the Office of Informatics (OI) within the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The NCIPC Office of Informatics supports a growing portfolio of systems and IT services while providing Center-wide leadership in project management best practices, IT governance, system interoperability, reduction of redundancies, adoption of emerging technologies, accountability of IT resources, data security, and compliance with Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and CDC IT policies, procedures, standards, and regulations. The Section 508 Compliance Specialist will ensure all IT systems, digital content, and deliverables meet federal accessibility requirements in alignment with HHS Section 508 standards and WCAG guidelines.

Work Location:
  • In-office/hybrid: Work will primarily be performed in a remote environment, with on-site support provided on an as-needed basis, at the CDC Chamblee Campus located at 4770 Buford Highway, Chamblee, GA 30341.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Section 508 accessibility compliance activities for all Information and Communication Technology (ICT) deliverables, including websites, web applications, software platforms, electronic documents, dashboards, and multimedia content.
  • Conduct comprehensive accessibility assessments and compliance evaluations in accordance with Section 508 requirements and World Wide Web Consortium WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.0/2.1 Level A and AA standards, using both automated testing tools and manual validation techniques.
  • Perform accessibility testing utilizing assistive technologies and industry-standard tools, including screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, color contrast analyzers, and document accessibility validators.
  • Review, validate, and remediate electronic content such as PDFs, Microsoft Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, forms, and web-based materials to ensure accessibility, proper tagging, structure, and usability.
  • Develop, maintain, and update Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs), Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs), audit findings, compliance documentation, and remediation tracking reports.
  • Identify accessibility deficiencies and provide detailed technical recommendations and remediation guidance to developers, designers, content authors, and project teams to resolve compliance issues effectively.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate accessibility requirements and best practices throughout the system design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance lifecycle.
  • Monitor accessibility compliance across projects and initiatives, track remediation progress, and support continuous process improvement efforts to maintain adherence to federal accessibility standards.
  • Provide subject matter expertise, consultation, and training to stakeholders on Section 508 requirements, WCAG standards, accessibility tools, testing methodologies, and implementation best practices.
  • Support internal and external audits, compliance reviews, and federal acceptance testing activities to ensure all deliverables satisfy accessibility and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current with evolving accessibility regulations, emerging technologies, industry trends, and federal guidance to continuously enhance organizational accessibility compliance practices.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
  • Completed Bachelor's degree Computer Science, IT, or in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in Section 508 compliance and digital accessibility.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applying WCAG standards, conducting accessibility testing, and developing ACR/VPAT documentation within federal or enterprise IT environments.
  • Required Public Trust clearance
  • Please note that this is a part time role


Preferred Qualifications:
  • IAAP (CPACC/WAS) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with federal accessibility programs.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Expertise in accessibility testing tools and WCAG standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and compliance documentation.
  • Professional working knowledge within SharePoint
  • Professional interpersonal and computer skills, to include but not limited to, skills in operating Microsoft Office software, with emphasis on Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook as well as SharePoint.
  • Skills in managing and prioritizing multiple assignments with strict deadlines and ability to coordinate efforts among many offices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Expertise to prepare and present information/data via oral briefing(s) and/or by written reports
