Position Description & Qualifications
As a Technical Writer, you will support the development, revision, and maintenance of technical documentation for a U.S. Navy MILSATCOM program in the Newport, Rhode Island area. You will work with engineers, logisticians, subject matter experts, and Government personnel to turn technical information into clear, accurate, and usable documentation.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing technical manuals, procedures, training materials, reports, and other technical products in support of complex systems. This position requires strong writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with technical personnel to capture and document information accurately.

This position requires strong writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with technical personnel to capture and document information accurately.
In this role, you will:
- Develop, revise, edit, and format technical manuals, procedures, reports, guides, and other program documentation.
- Work with engineers, logisticians, and subject matter experts to collect and translate technical information into clear and accurate written products.
- Support the development and maintenance of On-the-Job Training (OJT) materials, work instructions, reference guides, and training products.
- Review existing technical documentation and update content to reflect system changes, engineering changes, field changes, upgrades, and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure technical documents follow established Government, program, and organizational formatting and documentation standards.
- Support the preparation and delivery of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) products and other Government-required documentation.
- Edit technical content for grammar, consistency, accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
- Create and maintain document templates, formatting standards, tables, graphics, and other supporting content used in technical publications.
- Coordinate document reviews and incorporate comments and changes from Government personnel, engineers, logisticians, and other reviewers.
- Support configuration and version control of technical documents throughout the review and approval process.
- Maintain working files, source material, review comments, and approved documentation on Government network drives, SharePoint sites, and other approved repositories.
- Assist with document inventories, data calls, technical reviews, and other documentation efforts as needed.
- Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant experience,
- or a High School Diploma/GED with 6 years of relevant experience.
- An active Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience developing, writing, editing, or maintaining technical documentation.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Strong written communication, grammar, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to understand technical information and present it clearly for the intended audience.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistency across large or complex technical documents.
- Experience working with document templates, styles, formatting standards, and document revision processes.
- Ability to manage multiple documents and priorities while meeting established deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with engineers, logisticians, subject matter experts, and Government personnel.
- Previous experience supporting the U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, or another Federal Government organization.
- Experience supporting military communications, satellite communications, electronics, or other complex DoD systems.
- Experience developing Navy technical manuals, maintenance procedures, engineering documentation, or logistics products.
- Familiarity with Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Integrated Product Support (IPS), configuration management, or technical data management.
- Experience working with CDRLs or other Government technical deliverables.
- Experience developing OJT materials, work instructions, standard operating procedures, or other training documentation.
- Familiarity with Navy or DoD technical publication standards and document review processes.
- Experience with SharePoint or other Government document-management systems.
