Job Description
Piper Companies is seeking a Sr. Route/Switch Network Engineer to support a leading government services organization within the defense industry. The Sr. Route/Switch Network Engineer will serve as a senior-level technical resource responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise network infrastructure supporting mission-critical operations. This role requires an active TS/SCI Clearance and is onsite five days per week at Fort Meade.
Responsibilities of the Sr. Route/Switch Network Engineer:
• Design, implement, and support large-scale enterprise routing and switching environments.
• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and associated technologies.
• Perform advanced network analysis and resolve complex connectivity, performance, and availability issues.
• Develop and maintain network automation scripts using Python to streamline operational processes and improve efficiency.
• Utilize GitHub for version control, code management, and collaboration on automation initiatives.
• Support network modernization efforts, technology refresh projects, and infrastructure upgrades.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems engineering, and operations teams to ensure secure and reliable network services.
• Create and maintain network documentation, diagrams, standards, and operational procedures.
Qualifications of the Sr. Route/Switch Network Engineer:
• Active TS/SCI Clearance required.
• 8+ years of experience supporting enterprise routing and switching environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching technologies.
• Expertise with network protocols including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, STP, and TCP/IP.
• Experience developing automation and network management solutions using Python.
• Proficiency with GitHub for source control and collaborative development practices.
• Experience troubleshooting complex network issues in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
• Cisco certifications such as CCNP Enterprise, CCIE, or equivalent are preferred.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Compensation for the Sr. Route/Switch Network Engineer includes:
• Salary range: $170,000 - $190,000 depending on experience
