Job Description

Seeking a Senior Instructor for the Maintenance University Program to perform training and provide briefs to raise awareness and knowledge level critical to maintenance management or execution for support of material condition readiness of U.S. Navy surface ships of COMNAVSURFLANT/SURFPAC

Responsibilities

As a Senior Maintenance University Instructor with AMERICAN SYSTEMS you will have the opportunity to do the following:
  • • Participate in course development
  • • Provide training and effectively communicate with senior naval personnel and civilians on naval maintenance.
  • • Provide training in the use the maintenance assessment process, document assigned equipment conditions, ships force corrective maintenance, and track corrective maintenance assigned for accomplishment by third party activities.
  • • Provide training at the Senior Officer level on Class Maintenance Plans (CMP), the use of maintenance scheduling tool (SKED), Ships 3M Maintenance Program and provide guidance on how to plan for ship availabilities and to manage the
  • • Provide process improvement recommendations to Surface Type Commander Staff.
  • • Provide Work Center Supervisors with the training to understand and use the maintenance assessment process, document assigned equipment conditions, plan and execute ships force corrective maintenance, and track corrective maintenance assigned for accomplishment by off ship activities. Address the importance of the Consolidate Ships Maintenance Plan (CSMP) and how it can be utilized on the work center level to plan and prioritize work, including the use of preventive maintenance scheduling tool (SKED).
  • • Provide ship Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO) training to be more efficient and effective in the oversight and management of shipboard maintenance. Provide guidance on how to plan for Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Availabilities and Continuous Maintenance Availabilities (CMAVs), manage the ships 3-M Program and use of Schedule.
  • • Participate in course development and provide training on Consolidate Ships Maintenance plans (CSMP), Preventative Maintenance Scheduling tool (SKED), Availability Work Package (AWP), Chief of Naval Operation (NCO) Availabilities, Continuous Maintenance Availabilities (CMAVS), 3-M Program and Organizational Maintenance Management System - Next Generation (OMMS-NG) to the following personnel: Senior Officer level (often O-5 and O-6 audience), Port Engineers, Shore Management personnel, Work Center Supervisors, Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO), Division Officers and other staff as part of the Surface Warfare Officer Training Program, 3-M Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.


Qualifications

• Served at least 20 years in the United States Navy as an officer and achieved the rank of O-5.

• The candidate shall have had command of at least one United States surface ship as an O-5 with one tour at Echelon III or higher U.S. Navy surface ship staff level.

• Spent a minimum of two years on an Echelon III or higher U.S. Navy surface ship staff.

• Experience in providing process improvement recommendations to TYCOM staff on maintenance and leadership areas.

• Working knowledge and recent (within last three years) experience with current Fleet maintenance policies, processes, programs, and initiatives.

• Experience in a shipboard officer leadership role in material condition readiness.

• Experience providing training at the Senior Officer level (often O-5 and O-6 audience) and ship's wardrooms.

• Experience in shore management programs.

• Experience providing process improvement recommendations to Surface Type Commander Staff.

• Recent experience (two years within last five years in an instructor related capacity on surface U.S. Navy maintenance subject matter) integrating maintenance management AIS tools into billet/level based materials that address execution level of detail for each shipboard and support role.

• Recent experience (within last five years) conducting technical briefs at all levels of shipboard and ashore maintenance leadership.

• Must have broad experience and knowledge on shipboard systems and material condition assessment.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret level security clearance and base access.

• Must be able to travel 15% - 25% of time.

• Must have a bachelor's degree or higher.

Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
