WOOD WORKER

Duties

• You will evaluate, design, and construct containers, and package and pack highly sensitive and critical primary and secondary reactor plant components, nuclear material, and nuclear radioactive material.
• You will plan and construct specialized or custom boxes, crates, skids, and bracing structures, shipping and storage containers for items of irregular shape and unusual size and weight, custom cutting and building supports and bracing structures.
• You will utilize blueprints, sketches, templates and samples to layout and set up work.
• You will evaluate, design, and construct supporting cradles.
• You will assume the responsibility for the technical adequacy, accuracy, and timely execution of complex material packaging.
• You will provide assistance to nuclear engineers from NEPD by suggesting methods for completing difficult or unusual jobs (related to container design, construction techniques, blocking and bracing methods, load securement, etc.).
• You will operate all milworking machinery such as band saws, radial saws, (both table and arm), and various hand and power woodworking tools.
• You will set up, adjust, and operate a wide variety of light to heavy, simple and complex woodworking machinery in the milling and fabricating functions.
• You will move heavy equipment, components and material into position on prepared platforms using hoists, jib cranes or requesting assistance of rigging personnel and crane operators.
• You will assure timely accomplishments of the assigned workload.
• You will maintain awareness with the status and progress of the work and make daily adjustments in accordance with established priorities.
• You will provide technical direction and guidance to journeyman mechanics, loaned to the section during peak workloads, in the performance of assigned tasks.
• You will instruct employees in specific job techniques and make available written instructions to reference material and supplies.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
• You will be required to become fully radiological qualified and maintain qualifications.
• This work requires physical exertion including recurring, standing, walking, stooping, stretching, reaching, climbing and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• You may be exposed to prolonged bending, kneeling, crouching and working in awkward positions.
• You must meet the physical qualifications required for issuance of a permit to operate forklifts and/or motor vehicles and cranes obtaining radiological qualifications.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• This position requires participation in the radiation health monitoring program and the ability to use radiation dosimetery for working in radiation areas.
• You must have the ability to obtain and maintain forklift and overhead building crane operator's license.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.

This position requires the incumbent to maintain qualifications to support off yard detachments and assignment of temporary duty station to provide nuclear material support. These include specific environmental, HAZMAT, site specific travel briefings and training for CONUS and OCONUS, obtaining a government passport and a government credit card.
