Job Description

Duties

  • You will provide technical assistance for urgent mission-degrading Casualty Reports (CASREP) or similar technical issues affecting assigned equipment that is out of ship's force scope of troubleshooting.
  • You will provide technical assistance on technical problems beyond the capability of forces afloat, intermediate maintenance activities, or repair activities to diagnose and correct.
  • You will prepare technical reports (and formal correspondence when required) identifying aspects of the problems, their causes, and corrections applied.
  • You will perform technical support for functional checkout, grooming, adjustment, and test of repaired, new, or modernized shipboard systems and equipment in a systems qualifications test environment (many of which are at sea).
  • You will provide technical/engineering guidance to superintendents of shipbuilding (SUPSHIPs), port engineers and to naval shipyards in resolution of repair/overhaul or test/grooming problems beyond their level of in-house engineering expertise.
  • You will be frequently on travel, beyond reach of supervisory assistance/guidance, without customary references, and requiring direct communications with ships' officers.
  • You will assist Forward Deployed Naval Forces with Fleet Technical Assistance, Assessments, and Ship Maintenance Availability.
  • You will provide technical support on the electrical and controls of Auxiliary Systems, and associated equipment/sub-systems, including but not limited to sea/potable water, refrigerant, fuel oil, steering, elevator, hydraulic, and deck machinery.

  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a United States driver's license and U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR certification).
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Providing technical assistance for maintenance activities, or repair activities, casualty reports or similar technical issues AND Preparing technical reports and formal correspondence identifying aspects of problems, their causes, and corrections applied AND Performing technical support for functional checkout, grooming, adjustment, and test of shipboard systems/equipment in a systems qualifications test environment AND Providing technical/engineering guidance to superintendents of shipbuilding, port engineers and to naval shipyards.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
