Reports to: Facilities Supervisor


Primary Responsibilities:


Assist the Facility Management Section with development, design, planning, and execution phases for construction and renovation projects in secure areas of the Chancery, the Existing Office Building and Embassy Compound.  The Project Coordinator (PC) maintains records of facility based tools, equipment, and spare parts inventories housed in the CAA.  The PC is responsible to develop scope of work (SOW) including required purchased components, developing an independent government estimate (IGE) to ensure completion of on-time and within budget projects, and when projects have been approved is responsible for initiating and processing requests  for any secure procurements needed to support the project.


As assigned by the Senior Facility Manager (S/FM), acts as project coordinator for construction and renovation projects. The PC coordinates with various sections in order to ensure smooth execution and successful completion of these projects.


The employee for this position ensures that plans and drawings comply with appropriate specifications. Produces “as built” drawings in accordance with accepted industry practices.


Properly file and catalog drawings paying particular attention to security matters at all times.


Reports to the Facilities Supervisor, but coordinates work directly with FM or his/her designee.


Using DOS standard secure procurement procedures


Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE


  1. Education:



Must be 21 years of age; completed secondary school or obtained a GED.


  1. Prior Work Experience:



Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in the building construction and maintenance trades is required. Two years of total five years’ work experience should be in project and one year of total five years’ work experience as supervisor is also required.


  1. Job Knowledge:



Must have good knowledge of architectural and civil engineering theories, inspection practices and procedures, of construction practices and techniques, and work of the principal construction trades. Must be able to identify and evaluate conformance to specifications, safety, adequacy, and quality of work. Must good working knowledge of Local and International Building Codes (IBC), standard engineering reference works and handbooks, AIA handbooks and requirements on construction work.


Must have a full knowledge of safety practices applicable to the construction industry.


Must have a good knowledge of US and the host country/local practices and codes.


  1. Skills and Abilities:



Personal skills: Must possess professional and technical ability able to program, plan, schedule, evaluate, organize and delegate effectively. Must have excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision, work under stress to trouble shoot and solve site problems, and be willing to work outside normal working hours occasionally. Must be willing to work outdoors and perform field work in addition to office based functions.


Technical skills: Must be able to exercise a high degree of initiative and judgment in scoping work activities, evaluating quality of work performed and selection of appropriate materials and finishes. Must have proven construction and renovation skills in architectural and civil work and demonstrate the ability to acquire technical knowledge in other disciplines.


Computer skills: Must have effective computer skills of AutoCad, Photoshop, MS Project or a scheduling software, Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to use various internet search engines are required.


Safety: Must be able to perform all job activities and duties in a responsible manner to avoid the creation of safety or health hazards and conform to established safety and health policies. Must be able to utilize, and enforce appropriate usage of, personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job activity. Must report unsafe or hazardous conditions immediately to the POSHO.


Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance.


Must be a U.S. Citizen.
