Job Summary
The Director of Supply Chain provides strategic leadership and oversight of Purchasing, Material Control, Supplier Development, and Logistics functions supporting aerospace manufacturing operations. This role collaborates closely with department managers and cross-functional leaders to ensure supplier performance, inventory management, and logistics activities align with business objectives, customer requirements, and operational goals. The ideal candidate is a hands-on aerospace supply chain leader with strong supplier relationship management, negotiation expertise, and knowledge of AS9100 compliance and audit requirements.

Job Summary
The Director of Supply Chain provides strategic leadership and oversight of Purchasing, Material Control, Supplier Development, and Logistics functions supporting aerospace manufacturing operations. This role collaborates closely with department managers and cross-functional leaders to ensure supplier performance, inventory management, and logistics activities align with business objectives, customer requirements, and operational goals. The ideal candidate is a hands-on aerospace supply chain leader with strong supplier relationship management, negotiation expertise, and knowledge of AS9100 compliance and audit requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for Purchasing, Material Control, Supplier Development, and Logistics functions.
- Drive supply chain performance through KPI management, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with AS9100 requirements, company procedures, and customer expectations.
- Lead corrective and preventive actions related to supply chain audits and performance issues.
- Partner with the Purchasing Manager to establish sourcing strategies, supplier selection criteria, and procurement priorities that align with customer requirements and DFARS.
- Support supplier negotiations, long-term agreements, and strategic supplier relationships.
- Monitor supplier performance related to cost, quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
- Oversee Material Control and Inventory Management activities through the department leadership team.
- Review inventory performance, material availability, and working capital metrics to ensure organizational objectives are achieved.
- Support resolution of critical material shortages, inventory discrepancies, and supply chain disruptions when escalation is required.
- Ensure effective inventory management practices support production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
- Oversee supplier development initiatives to improve quality, delivery, capacity, and responsiveness.
- Support supplier audits, assessments, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Drive supplier performance and risk mitigation strategies.
- Partner with the Logistics Manager to oversee domestic and international logistics operations, ensuring the secure and compliant movement of aerospace, defense, ITAR-controlled, and military materials.
- Ensure compliance with ITAR, EAR, import/export regulations, customer requirements, and contractual obligations related to domestic and international shipments.
- Manage relationships with freight carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and logistics partners to support on-time delivery, cost efficiency, and operational performance.
- Drive continuous improvement in logistics performance while mitigating transportation risks, customs delays, shipping disruptions, and customer delivery challenges.
- Perform other duties as are necessary and/or required.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive Supply Chain leadership experience in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Experience leading Purchasing, Material Control, Supplier Development, and Logistics functions through departmental managers.
- Strong knowledge of Deltek Costpoint or similar ERP/MRP systems.
- Experience supporting AS9100 certification, customer, and internal audits, including corrective action management.
- Working knowledge of DFARS, ITAR, EAR, and other regulatory requirements applicable to aerospace and defense supply chains, including government and military programs.
- Proven success negotiating supplier agreements, pricing, lead times, capacity commitments, and strategic partnerships.
- Strong supplier relationship management and supplier development experience.
- Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- APICS CPIM, CSCP, or CPSM certification preferred.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred.
- Experience with aerospace OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, or defense contractors.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times, more with assistance.
- Work environment consists of various office and manufacturing settings and may have exposure to noise, varying temperatures, smells, and chemicals.
- Ability to traverse manufacturing facility.
