Job Title: Shipper / Packer – Wood Crating & Outbound Cargo
Location: Kaliwohi Air Force Base
Schedule: Full-time / Day Shift
Clearance / Eligibility: Active DoD Clearance and ability to obtain Secret Clearance within 45 days of hire.
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Shipper/Packer with strong woodworking skills to support outbound cargo operations for Department of Defense (DoD) shipments. This role builds and repairs wooden shipping containers, prepares and packs a wide variety of materials, and ensures compliant, on-time shipment using government and commercial cargo systems.
Key Responsibilities
Build and repair wood containers and crates for outbound shipments in line with Special Packaging Instructions (SPIRES).
Safely operate woodworking and packing equipment (table and circular saws, drills, nailers, banding equipment, shrink-wrap, palletizing equipment, etc.).
Perform a wide range of packing and preservation work, including custom cushioning and protection to prevent damage in transit.
Verify shipping documentation for accuracy, check items against paperwork, and resolve discrepancies whenever possible before packing.
For unresolved issues, follow procedures to route “frustrated” cargo and coordinate with customers for resolution.
Use Cargo Movement Operating System (CMOS) and other required systems to in-check, process, and ship MILSTRIP and non‑MILSTRIP cargo; support manual processes during system outages.
Ensure shipments meet required timelines under UMMIPS/MILSTRIP movement standards.
Prepare and apply all required labels, special handling codes, and safety documentation.
Follow all federal, state, and company safety and environmental rules for handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and use required PPE at all times.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in a shipping/receiving, packing, warehouse, or wood shop environment.
Proficient with woodworking hand and power tools and basic measuring/math.
Strong attention to detail when matching items to shipping documents and resolving discrepancies.
Ability to lift, move, and pack materials and work on your feet for most of the shift.
Commitment to working safely and following procedures and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting DoD or government cargo operations.
Familiarity with CMOS, MILSTRIP, or similar cargo/transportation systems.
Knowledge of preservation and packing standards for freight or military cargo.
