A Paralegal IV performs, but is not limited to the following duties:
- Responsible for organizing and processing high quantities of data and discovery documents, including electronic discovery.
- Responsible for completeness of discovery productions and for producing discovery.
- Compile, prepare, and summarize relevant materials for use by AUSAs in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents.
- Seek and locate sources of information, in aid of criminal investigations and trials, through contact or correspondence with other departments and/or agencies of federal, state and local government.
- Gather factual material independently; read, annotate, and summarize transcripts, files and other factual aspects of the case; obtain financial and statistical information, agency records, court records and other public records; review and analyze documents and draft factual memoranda.
- Identify conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation.
- Draft jury instructions and other trial documents for filing in court.
- Perform legal research.
- Write preliminary drafts of correspondence.
- Assist AUSAs in drafting court pleadings.
- Upload electronic documents and data onto document review platforms and organize folders for review. Participate in review and analysis of electronic documents.
- Redact documents and transcripts for discovery, including using electronic redaction.
- Prepare high volume of exhibits for trial using varied media formats.
- Provide critical assistance in trial preparations. Prepare documents, charts and visual materials for use in trials. Provide technical support, e.g., enlarging charts and photographs and marking exhibits.
- Provide automated litigation assistance to AUSAs in trial preparation and courtroom presentations. Utilize various software applications and graphics hardware such as scanners and plotters.
- Review, organize, and track responses to subpoenas and other legal process.
- Assist with internal status monitoring and reporting of investigations and prosecutions.
- Work closely with other members of case team, including assigned AUSAs,
- Perform other related duties as assigned and within scope.
A Paralegal IV must meet the following qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) years of professional experience involving paralegal support services, including:
- Experience processing and reviewing complex discovery;
- Assisting in trial preparation by compiling, organizing, and indexing various evidentiary exhibits;
- Reviewing legal documents to extract information related to specific issues;
- Verifying citations and statutory references contained in legal documents;
- Utilizing various computerized database programs to include automated legal research tools and public information to organize extensive documents;
- Conducting legal research
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.
