Job Description

Duties

  • You will provide inspections on a variety of water systems; interpret, apply, and enforce pertinent rules and regulations; interpret and explain cross connection and water quality regulations.
  • You will read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning.
  • You will observe and interpret situations; review and interpret blueprints, plans, and manufacturers' manuals pertaining to commercial and industrial complexes to determine compliance with applicable standards.
  • You will perform, analyze and interpret the results of a variety of cross connection control tests and tests of backflow preventers; maintain accurate records and prepare appropriate reports; operate and maintain testing equipment.
  • You will review mechanical piping system designs and provides review comments for proposed plans and specifications for new construction, alteration and repair projects to assure compliance with backflow prevention requirements
  • You will provide technical advice to engineers and technicians on specific maintenance, design and repair problems relating to cross connection control.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current driver's license and, if required, a local government license to operate a government vehicle to report to various job sites.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1)Plan, define, develop, and document quality requirements for products, services, processes, and systems that are suitable to the activity, proportional to the risk, and consistent with established Agency guidance, practices, and standards.2) In depth knowledge of Backflow Prevention devised and systems. 3)Manages programs and fosters an environment that administers all resources in a manner that instills public trust while accomplishing the mission.4) Monitors progress and evaluates outcomes to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness. 5)Holds self and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results.

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: I am certified by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), Foundation for Cross-Connection Control & Hydraulic Research (FCCC&HR) to inspect, test and certify Cross-Connection Control Assemblies and Backflow Prevention Devices, or I am state-wide backflow assembly tester or inspector certified.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The majority of work will be performed under field conditions requiring frequent field
surveys ascending ladders to rooftops, trusses, and other semi-precarious positions with exposure
to moving equipment, electrical currents, or toxic fumes. Must be capable of traversing hills,
swales and rough terrain and be able to obtain a driver's license and operate sedans, pickup
trucks and vans. Travel out of the area might be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in both an office setting and at work sites. Regular work may be
inside or outside in which case prolonged exposure to the weather elements is possible. Work
involves traveling to contactor work sites that have moderate risks and discomforts that may require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines and possible exposure to loud noises, irritant chemicals and explosive materials. Employees may be
required to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), protective clothing and gear, such as hard
hats, masks, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, fall protection, etc and other specific gear and
equipment that pertains to a specific job or job site. Work requires employees to drive a vehicle.
Air travel may be required periodically.
