We are seeking a Senior Data Quality Engineer to support a mission-focused enterprise modernization effort within the Department of Veterans Affairs. Working with business data owners, subject matter experts, data architects, migration engineers, Salesforce architects and developers, integration resources, quality assurance personnel, and security and compliance stakeholders, the Senior Data Quality Engineer will define and execute the data quality and migration-validation approach for legacy records and documents moving into Salesforce Service Cloud, an Experience Cloud Applicant Portal, SharePoint Online, and approved enterprise interfaces. The role is responsible for data profiling, quality-rule development, cleansing and duplicate analysis, mapping and transformation validation, mock-conversion reconciliation, production migration readiness, data-defect resolution, and auditable quality evidence. Success requires strong hands-on data analysis, disciplined validation methods, and the ability to translate business expectations into measurable data acceptance criteria throughout Agile delivery, deployment, and Hypercare.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Lead the development and execution of the data quality strategy, validation plan, control framework, metrics, thresholds, and quality gates for legacy data migration, integrated data exchanges, and production readiness.
· Profile legacy source data and documents to assess completeness, validity, consistency, uniqueness, accuracy, conformity, referential integrity, record relationships, metadata quality, and readiness for migration.
· Partner with business data owners and subject matter experts to identify critical data elements, define authoritative business meanings, establish quality rules and acceptance criteria, and document approved remediation and disposition decisions.
· Analyze source schemas, target Salesforce data models, document metadata, record relationships, and migration inventories to identify gaps, anomalies, duplicates, orphaned records, unsupported values, and other conversion risks.
· Review and validate source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, cleansing rules, standardization, defaulting, duplicate handling, exception processing, historical-data scope, and business certification criteria.
· Develop reusable SQL queries, scripts, comparison routines, and automated checks to support profiling, field-level validation, control totals, record-count reconciliation, relationship testing, exception reporting, and repeatable migration verification.
· Validate data conversion routines and multiple mock migrations through pre-load and post-load analysis, sampling, source-to-target comparison, reconciliation, trend analysis, and documented assessment of residual risk.
· Verify that migrated documents retain the required metadata, business relationships, version context, audit history, and linkage between Salesforce and the authoritative SharePoint Online repository.
· Test data exchanged through approved integrations and enterprise services, including the Digital Integration Platform, SharePoint Online, email, notification, and document-service interfaces, to confirm accuracy, completeness, sequencing, and error handling.
· Identify, document, prioritize, and track data quality defects; perform root-cause analysis; coordinate corrective action with migration, Salesforce, integration, and source-system teams; and verify that fixes do not introduce regression issues.
· Maintain data quality scorecards, reconciliation reports, exception logs, defect evidence, mapping traceability, validation results, and migration-readiness recommendations needed for quality gates, business approval, and production authorization.
· Apply appropriate controls for personally identifiable and other sensitive information, including least-privilege access, secure test-data handling, data minimization, auditability, lineage, retention, and approved privacy and records-management requirements.
· Participate in two-week Agile sprints, Program Increment planning, backlog refinement, estimation, demonstrations, System Integration Testing, User Acceptance Testing, defect triage, release-readiness reviews, and cross-functional data working sessions.
· Support final migration rehearsals, production cutover, post-deployment validation, Hypercare, stabilization, knowledge transfer, and transition of data quality controls and operating procedures to the designated support organization.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· 5+ years of experience in data quality engineering, data validation, data migration testing, ETL/ELT quality assurance, data analysis, or a closely related discipline supporting enterprise application modernization.
· Strong hands-on SQL skills and experience using queries, scripts, or data-processing tools to profile data, automate validation, compare source and target results, and investigate anomalies across large or complex datasets.
· Demonstrated experience defining and applying data-quality rules, thresholds, metrics, and acceptance criteria across dimensions such as completeness, accuracy, consistency, validity, uniqueness, and referential integrity.
· Experience reviewing source-to-target mappings, transformation specifications, data definitions, code translations, cleansing rules, duplicate-resolution approaches, and migration exception handling.
· Experience validating data conversions through mock loads, reconciliation, record counts, control totals, key-field comparisons, relationship checks, risk-based sampling, and production migration verification.
· Working knowledge of relational data structures, master and reference data, structured and semi-structured data, document metadata, and the dependencies among business records, workflows, integrations, and reporting.
· Experience managing data defects, performing root-cause analysis, assessing business impact, tracking remediation, validating corrections, and producing objective quality evidence for release-readiness decisions.
· Ability to collaborate with data owners, subject matter experts, business analysts, architects, developers, integration engineers, testers, and security or compliance personnel to resolve complex data issues.
· Experience supporting systems that process sensitive or personally identifiable information, including awareness of least-privilege access, privacy, records retention, auditability, and secure handling of test and migration data.
· Experience working in Agile delivery environments, including backlog refinement, sprint planning and reviews, iterative testing, formal quality gates, release planning, and cross-functional technical working sessions.
· Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to explain data-quality risk and evidence, work independently across concurrent workstreams, manage priorities and dependencies, and carry quality activities through production stabilization.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
· Experience supporting Salesforce Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, Salesforce data migration, or comparable CRM and case-management platform implementations, including familiarity with object relationships, validation rules, external identifiers, bulk processing, or migration utilities.
· Experience with SharePoint Online document metadata, enterprise content repositories, document migration, or records-management validation.
· Familiarity with API-based integrations, MuleSoft, the VA Digital Integration Platform, or other enterprise integration and middleware technologies.
· Experience with commercial or cloud-based ETL/ELT, data-profiling, data-quality, test-automation, or reporting tools, including the development of reusable validation frameworks.
· Experience supporting Federal, state, healthcare, legal, licensing, credentialing, accreditation, financial, or other regulated environments; Department of Veterans Affairs experience is a plus.
· Professional certification in data management, data quality, testing, cloud platforms, Agile delivery, or Salesforce is preferred but not required.
· Experience using Azure DevOps, Jira, Microsoft Power BI, or comparable tools for defect tracking, test evidence, traceability, data-quality dashboards, migration readiness reporting, and executive decision support.
EDUCATION:
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Analytics, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, professional certifications, and relevant experience.
CLEARANCE:
· Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
WORK LOCATION:
· Remote
