We are seeking a Salesforce Developer to support a mission-focused enterprise modernization effort within the Department of Veterans Affairs. Working under the direction of Salesforce solution and technical architects, the Developer will configure, develop, test, and deploy secure and maintainable capabilities across Salesforce Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, Salesforce Flow, reports and dashboards, and approved integration services. The role supports delivery from backlog refinement and technical design through deployment, defect resolution, Hypercare, and operational transition. Success requires a configuration-first mindset, strong hands-on Salesforce development skills, disciplined security and accessibility practices, and effective collaboration across business analysis, architecture, UX, data, integration, quality assurance, DevSecOps, and platform administration teams.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Translate approved user stories, acceptance criteria, business processes, and solution designs into maintainable Salesforce configuration and code.
· Configure and extend standard and custom objects, fields, relationships, record types, Lightning applications and pages, layouts, queues, validation rules, approval processes, and related platform components.
· Develop reusable Salesforce Flow automation for case routing, task generation, notifications, approvals, decision support, status progression, and other business workflows, using custom code only where validated requirements cannot be met through standard platform capabilities.
· Develop and maintain Apex, SOQL/SOSL, Lightning Web Components, test classes, and Salesforce API components where program requirements require custom implementation.
· Build and enhance Service Cloud case-management capabilities supporting intake, profile and lifecycle management, reviews, correspondence, workload routing, audit history, reporting, and related operational processes.
· Develop Experience Cloud capabilities supporting secure self-service, applicant profiles, online submissions, document upload, status tracking, messaging, Requests for Information responses, and responsive user experiences.
· Implement Salesforce-side data mappings, callouts, event or message handling, and interface components supporting approved integrations through enterprise middleware, the Digital Integration Platform, SharePoint Online, email, notification, and document services.
· Apply approved data-model, role hierarchy, permission-set, field-level security, sharing, audit, and least-privilege patterns to protect sensitive information and maintain traceability.
· Create and maintain reports, dashboards, operational views, audit outputs, and monitoring information that support workload management, service visibility, and business decision-making.
· Develop unit tests, participate in peer reviews, support system and integration testing, assist with User Acceptance Testing, and diagnose and resolve defects across development, test, and production environments.
· Maintain source-controlled Salesforce metadata and code; support branching, pull-request review, CI/CD pipelines, deployment packaging, environment promotions, release readiness, and post-deployment validation.
· Support data migration by validating target objects, mappings, transformation results, mock loads, reconciliation findings, and production conversion readiness in coordination with data specialists and business owners.
· Participate in two-week Agile sprints, Program Increment planning, backlog refinement, estimation, sprint reviews, demonstrations, retrospectives, and technical working sessions.
· Prepare and maintain technical documentation, configuration notes, test evidence, deployment inputs, and knowledge-transfer materials; support production deployment, Hypercare, stabilization, and operational transition activities.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· 3+ years of hands-on Salesforce development and configuration experience supporting enterprise applications or complex business workflows.
· Strong experience with Salesforce declarative capabilities, including Flow, Lightning App Builder, standard and custom objects, record types, validation rules, approval processes, queues, notifications, and reports and dashboards.
· Hands-on experience with Apex, SOQL/SOSL, Lightning Web Components or comparable Salesforce UI development, Salesforce APIs, and automated test classes.
· Experience delivering capabilities in Salesforce Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, or similarly complex Salesforce platform implementations.
· Working knowledge of Salesforce data modeling, security architecture, permission sets, role hierarchy, field-level security, record-level sharing, auditability, and least-privilege access.
· Experience developing or supporting API-based integrations using REST or SOAP services, structured payloads, authentication patterns, error handling, logging, and enterprise middleware.
· Experience using source control and CI/CD practices to manage Salesforce metadata and code across development, test, staging, and production environments.
· Ability to write maintainable code and automation, troubleshoot platform issues, address governor-limit and performance considerations, and resolve defects through root-cause analysis.
· Experience working in Agile delivery environments and collaborating with architects, business analysts, UX and accessibility specialists, integration and data resources, testers, DevSecOps engineers, administrators, and customer stakeholders.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to manage assigned work from refinement and development through testing and deployment.
· Ability to apply secure development practices when working with sensitive or personally identifiable information and to support accessibility requirements for Lightning and portal experiences.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
· Direct experience delivering both Salesforce Service Cloud and Experience Cloud solutions, including Experience Builder and external-user self-service capabilities.
· Salesforce certifications such as Platform Developer I, Platform App Builder, Administrator, Service Cloud Consultant, or Experience Cloud Consultant are preferred but not required.
· Experience supporting Federal, state, healthcare, legal, financial, or other regulated environments; Department of Veterans Affairs experience is a plus.
· Familiarity with enterprise integration platforms such as MuleSoft or the VA Digital Integration Platform, and with SharePoint Online or comparable document-management integrations.
· Experience supporting legacy data migration, data cleansing, transformation, reconciliation, and production conversion activities.
· Exposure to Section 508 accessibility, security and privacy reviews, records-management requirements, audit evidence, or Authority to Operate activities.
· Familiarity with document-generation capabilities, enterprise email and notification services, operational monitoring, or Microsoft Power BI integration.
EDUCATION:
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, professional certifications, and relevant experience.
CLEARANCE:
· Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
