Supervisory Training Instructor (Flight Simulator/Examiner)

Duties

• Plans , directs, and supervises mission-essential functions in connection with operation of the Training Support Center Aviation Flight Simulator Compound carried out by subordinate employees and key personnel.
• Maintains quality Assurance of flight simulator Instrument Operator (IO) standardization and compliance with established IO regulations/guidelines
• Responsible for instructor development in the subject matter of professional aviation procedures and techniques.
• Continuously monitors and proposes the update of curricula, and evaluates formal and informal classroom instruction to include undergraduate, graduate, and advanced training for aviators.
• Instructs and/or oversees the instruction of military pilots and instructor pilots in the operation of single or multi-engine rotary wing aircraft
• Establish performance requirements for subordinates and rates their performance.

• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
• This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
• This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles
• Position periodically requires irregular hours, overtime, and shift work on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends.
• Position requires a valid state driver's license.
• Position requires professional qualifications annually through an intense instrument flight evaluation, standardization flight evaluation, written and oral evaluation conducted by an army standardization instructor pilot.
• Term employment is subject to a two year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that includes: Providing technical instruction on aircraft systems, flight planning, navigation, and emergency procedures; conducting flight simulator training for pilots or aircrew members for an organization; evaluating student performance and providing remedial instruction to ensure proficiency in aircraft systems, applying instructional methods and established training standards to deliver classroom and simulator-based instruction; maintaining training documentation and student records; and recommending improvements to training materials, lesson plans, or instructional techniques to enhance the effectiveness of the training program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Selective Placement Factor - During the 12 months immediately preceding the closing date of this announcement, you must meet at least one of the following requirements.

• Served as a Ground Instructor providing pilot, flight instructor, or ground instructor training that included instrument instruction;
• OR
• Served as a Flight Instructor providing pilot, flight instructor, or ground instructor training that included instrument instruction; OR
• Successfully completed an approved Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) and received a graduation certificate;
• OR
• Received an endorsement from an authorized ground or flight instructor certifying demonstrated knowledge in instrument instruction.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
