Duties

Graduate Curriculum Oversight

Apply expert knowledge, including an understanding of the Student Information System (SIS), Learning Management System (LMS), instructional system design (ISD) best practices, and how emerging technologies shape learning experiences in AU graduate curriculum planning/design. Apply expert knowledge in innovative teaching techniques to shape instructional policy across Air University's graduate programs. Analyze curricula and present findings to Air University (AU) leadership. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Academic Program Review, Accreditation, and Compliance

The position is dedicated to academic program review, accreditation management, and policy compliance. The Chief manages the university's academic review processes to ensure they meet institutional priorities and strict regional and specialized accreditation standards. They conduct complex analyses of academic policies, ensuring full compliance with legal and regulatory requirements from the DoW, CJCS, and the USAF. Additionally, they are responsible for producing executive-level reports for senior leadership and continuously developing, coordinating, and implementing new educational policies to meet evolving academic needs.

Mission Contribution and Special Projects

The duties involve direct contribution to the university's mission and external representation. The Chief actively engages in teaching, scholarship, and service by delivering instruction, facilitating workshops, and providing subject matter expertise. Furthermore, they represent Air University at various task groups, committees, and external conferences, providing high-level organizational and academic support for special projects and events.

  • This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive civil service. This is an Administratively Determined position in the excepted service.
  • This position is excepted service, if you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary/trial period.
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • The employee may be required to travel on military, commercial aircraft, or by any other designated means, sometimes on short notice, to meetings, mobile training, or other functions away from the duty site.
Qualifications

  • Knowledge of higher education principles, theories, and practices related to curriculum development, instructional design, academic program review, and regional/specialized accreditation standards.
  • Knowledge of the policies, regulations, and directives of the Department of War (DoW), United States Air Force(USAF), and Air University (AU) as they apply to professional military education and institutional operations.
  • Skilled in applying advanced analytical and evaluative methods to assess academic programs, interpret complex policy, and resolve issues concerning institutional effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Skilled in communicating complex information, both orally and in writing, to diverse audiences, including the development and presentation of executive-level reports, briefings, and policy guidance.
  • Ability to provide leadership and expert guidance for academic programs, manage complex processes such as program reviews, and collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve institutional objectives.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and oversee academic policies, curriculum frameworks, and quality assurance processes in a complex higher education environment.

In order to qualify, a candidate must meet the education and/or experience requirements described. Education

Master's degree is required. The degree should be from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution ideally include curriculum and instructional development, management, academic leadership or education or a demonstrated job/career/academic professional experience for consideration as equivalent in those areas. PhD or other appropriate terminal degree is preferred.

The position will be an initial three-year appointment with a one-year probationary period, with the potential for continued reappointment for additional 1-5 year terms.
