We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to develop, edit, organize, and maintain customer-ready documentation for an enterprise Department of Veterans Affairs Pega Cloud modernization effort. The role works with project leaders, architects, engineers, testers, trainers, administrators, and support teams to produce accurate, traceable, accessible, and consistently formatted technical, programmatic, operational, training, testing, release, and compliance content.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop, edit, format, and maintain plans, reports, specifications, manuals, guides, procedures, briefings, meeting materials, and other required program deliverables.
· Support architecture, solution-design, data, interface, configuration, release, testing, security, accessibility, training, transition, and O&M documentation.
· Interview subject matter experts, capture technical information, identify gaps, reconcile review comments, and translate complex content for technical, business, and executive audiences.
· Apply Government-approved templates, style conventions, plain-language principles, acronym discipline, document-control practices, and accessibility requirements.
· Maintain document schedules, review cycles, comment resolution, approval status, version history, metadata, naming conventions, and repository organization.
· Ensure documentation remains aligned with approved requirements, architecture, configured behavior, test evidence, change records, and operational procedures.
· Support release notes, deployment materials, standard operating procedures, runbooks, knowledge articles, troubleshooting content, and knowledge transfer.
· Collaborate with training and change-management personnel on user manuals, quick-reference guides, FAQs, eLearning inputs, and communications without assuming ownership of training delivery.
· Conduct editorial and quality-control reviews for accuracy, clarity, consistency, readability, formatting, grammar, and completeness.
· Improve templates, reusable content, style guidance, and knowledge-management practices as the solution and contract evolve.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· 4+ years of experience developing technical, operational, compliance, user, training, or program documentation for software or IT delivery.
· Ability to work with subject matter experts and translate complex technical or process information into clear, audience-appropriate content.
· Experience supporting documentation for architecture, design, data, interfaces, testing, release, operations, training, security, or compliance activities.
· Strong command of grammar, organization, formatting, plain language, document structure, and editorial quality control.
· Experience with document version control, formal review cycles, comment resolution, approvals, repository management, and deliverable tracking.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, Adobe Acrobat, Confluence, Jira, or comparable tools.
· Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple documents, deadlines, reviewers, and evolving source inputs.
· Ability to work effectively in a remote, cross-functional, client-facing environment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
· Experience in Federal, financial, health, or another regulated IT environment; direct VA experience is helpful but not required.
· Familiarity with Pega, low-code SaaS, workflow modernization, financial systems, acquisition systems, or enterprise application documentation.
· Working knowledge of Section 508, FedRAMP, ATO/RMF, auditability, privacy, records management, configuration management, or ITIL documentation.
· Technical-writing, knowledge-management, accessibility, Agile, or ITIL certification is preferred, but not required.
EDUCATION:
· Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
CLEARANCE:
· Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
