We are seeking an experienced Pega Lead System Architect to provide senior technical architecture leadership for an enterprise Pega Cloud modernization effort within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The role establishes configuration-first architecture, reusable design patterns, security and integration guardrails, and technical governance for workflows supporting PPBE, financial execution, acquisition, reporting, auditability, and operations. This individual must bring substantial hands-on Pega architecture experience while working collaboratively with Government and delivery stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•      Own the end-to-end Pega application architecture and high-level solution design across case management, workflows, business rules, data, integrations, reporting, security, and operations.

•      Establish architecture guardrails that maximize declarative configuration, reusable components, upgradeability, modularity, and minimal custom code.

•      Define application layering, case-type design, data models, integration patterns, personas, role-based access, audit history, and technical standards.

•      Coordinate Pega design with the enterprise integration layer, authoritative data sources, OpenAPI-based interfaces, metadata, lineage, and resilient exchange patterns.

•      Ensure architecture supports FedRAMP/VA authorization, Zero Trust, ICAM/PIV, IPv6, logging, privacy, records, accessibility, and continuous-monitoring requirements.

•      Guide modular AI and report-generation architecture, including governed data access, model/service integration, versioning, explainability, and human review.

•      Lead architecture and design reviews, customization challenges, technical backlog decomposition, and resolution of cross-cutting technical risks.

•      Provide technical oversight during sprint delivery, testing, performance tuning, release readiness, deployment, and production stabilization.

•      Support architecture-level troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, remediation planning, and continuous improvement for complex system or integration issues.

•      Mentor System Architects, developers, data/integration engineers, and administrators in Pega best practices and disciplined technical delivery.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

•      8+ years of progressive enterprise application architecture or software-delivery experience, including substantial hands-on Pega implementation experience.

•      Demonstrated performance in a Pega architecture role comparable to Lead System Architect or senior enterprise solution architect.

•      Deep knowledge of Pega case management, application structure, rules, data modeling, integrations, security, reporting, deployment, and guardrail-based development.

•      Experience designing secure, scalable, modular, maintainable, and upgradeable enterprise Pega solutions.

•      Experience translating business, data, security, integration, accessibility, performance, and operational requirements into practical architecture decisions.

•      Working knowledge of REST APIs, enterprise integration patterns, data exchange, error handling, observability, and release governance.

•      Ability to lead technical reviews, make and document tradeoffs, identify architecture risk, and guide remediation across multiple teams.

•      Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical, business, executive, and Government audiences.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

•      Current Pega Certified Lead System Architect certification is strongly preferred; candidates with Pega Senior System Architect certification and equivalent architecture experience may be considered.

•      Experience with Pega Cloud for Government, FedRAMP-authorized SaaS, or another regulated cloud environment.

•      Familiarity with federal financial, budget, acquisition, workflow, or audit-support solutions; VA experience is beneficial but not required.

•      Experience with API-first architecture, AI-enabled workflow, Pega Process AI/GenAI, DevSecOps, Section 508, or observability tooling.

EDUCATION:

•      Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

CLEARANCE:

•      Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

WORK LOCATION:

•      Remote
