A Day in the Life - What you'll do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain modern web-based Java applications supporting strategic mission planning and command and control (C2) operations.
- Develop secure software capabilities supporting the Strategic Mission Planning and Execution System (SMPES) within a DevSecOps software factory.
- Collaborate daily with software engineers, systems engineers, cybersecurity professionals, product owners, and government stakeholders to deliver mission-critical software solutions.
- Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Develop new software features while enhancing existing capabilities supporting strategic nuclear command and control operations.
- Integrate security throughout the software development lifecycle by following DevSecOps best practices and secure coding standards.
- Design, implement, and execute automated unit, integration, and regression testing to ensure software quality and reliability.
- Support continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to enable rapid, secure, and repeatable software delivery.
- Troubleshoot software defects, analyze system performance, and implement improvements that enhance system functionality and mission effectiveness.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation supporting software design, architecture, testing, and deployment activities.
- Participate in peer code reviews and technical design discussions to ensure high-quality, maintainable software solutions.
- Support the modernization of legacy mission systems through adoption of modern software architectures, web technologies, and Agile development methodologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university.
- Experience developing object-oriented software applications using Java.
- Experience developing or supporting modern web-based software applications.
- Experience working within Agile Scrum software development environments.
- Understanding of DevSecOps principles and modern software development practices.
- Experience using version control systems such as Git.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary Agile engineering teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance and SCI eligibility.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense command and control (C2) systems.
- Experience supporting U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) or strategic deterrence missions.
- Experience working within DevSecOps software factories.
- Experience developing secure, mission-critical software systems.
- Experience with Java enterprise frameworks and modern web technologies.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs and distributed applications.
- Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or similar technologies.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Experience working within classified software development environments.
- Knowledge of secure software development practices and cybersecurity principles.
- Active DoD Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
