Job Description

Duties

  • Administers and maintains information systems hardware in compliance with Air Force directives.
  • Recommends, installs, and maintains system software.
  • Assists the network security officer with implementing security plans, procedures, and training to comply with Wing, Air Force, and Department of War standards
  • Provides ongoing technical advice, guidance, and training to customers on the operation and maintenance of systems hardware and software.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. Position is designated non critical -sensitive and requires a SECRET security clearance to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoW 8140-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve (cont'd)
  • the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoW 8140-M. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Specialized Experience: Must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NK-02 (next lower grade GS-04) or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes managing user equipment procurement, performs hardware inventories, and troubleshoots hardware, Local Area Network (LAN), and Wide Area Network (WAN) issues, installs, removes, and tests software packages to ensure compatibility and operational readiness. develops and modifies procedures for software library operation and configuration management,

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in -grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-04 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-05 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1.Knowledge of DoW and Air Force automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques.

2. Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; and other job control languages.

3. Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures.

4. Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems, and to provide user support.

5. Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems and develop effective and economical solutions; and train users on new computer systems.

6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
