About The Role

Peraton is looking for a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to support development, modernization, and migration in a government multi-cloud environment with 70+ customer tenants and growing.

The applicant must have extensive engineering experience and deep AWS expertise, including designing and leading implementation of cloud systems requirements and architecture. The Senior AWS Engineer will serve as a technical escalation point, drive root cause analysis on complex incidents, and provide mentorship and knowledge sharing across engineering teams. A passion for performance, strong desire for quality conformance, and attention to detail are prerequisites for this position.

Location: Remote (but must reside and perform all work within the United States)
Work Hours: This position requires working online from 8:00 AM Eastern to 5:00 PM Eastern

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:

Incident Response and Troubleshooting
  • Serve as the Tier 3 escalation point for complex incidents and outages within the AWS GovCloud environment
  • Lead investigation and resolution of issues across AWS services including EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, Lambda, and IAM
  • Drive root cause analysis on high-severity incidents and own implementation of solutions to prevent recurrence
  • Manage high-priority incident communications with stakeholders, leadership, and affected tenants
Monitoring and Optimization
  • Define and enforce monitoring standards across tenant environments using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Dynatrace, Splunk, and other tools
  • Lead proactive identification and mitigation of infrastructure risks before they impact tenants
  • Analyze system performance trends and architect optimizations to improve stability, efficiency, and security at scale
AWS Infrastructure Management
  • Lead management and maintenance of AWS GovCloud infrastructure across a 70+ tenant environment
  • Ensure all tenant resources are secure, FedRAMP compliant, and continuously optimized
  • Partner with the Architecture team to design and implement solutions aligned with AWS Well-Architected Framework best practices
  • Own and enforce Change Management procedures across the team
Collaboration, Mentorship, and Knowledge Sharing
  • Serve as technical lead for incident intake, triage prioritization, and team workload management
  • Mentor and train Tier 2 engineers; lead knowledge transfer sessions to build team capability
  • Drive improvements in team metrics and service delivery in coordination with the Service Delivery Manager and ISR Product Owner
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of incident response procedures, architecture decisions, and lessons learned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 of experience or an Associates degree and 10 years of experience or a High School diploma/equivalent and 12 years of experience
  • US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain a DHS Public Trust Security Clearance (Entry on Duty).
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification required.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise applications in AWS cloud environments.
  • Hands on experience with AWS services including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, Lambda, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and AWS GovCloud.
  • Experience supporting cloud infrastructure, application integration, and production environments in a DevOps or Platform Engineering environment.
  • Experience with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) for automation, configuration management, and deployment orchestration.
  • Experience developing automation and scripting solutions using Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of AWS security services, IAM, encryption, logging, and FedRAMP security requirements.
  • Experience troubleshooting production incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions in enterprise environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop technical documentation and collaborate effectively with cross functional teams.
Preferred Skills:
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional or relevant AWS Specialty certification (Security, Advanced Networking, etc.)
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CodePipeline)
  • Advanced scripting with PowerShell, Python, or AWS CLI for automation and remediation
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional
  • Relevant Agile certification (SAFe, CSM, or equivalent)
  • Red Hat Ansible or equivalent configuration management experience

Details

Target Salary Range: $104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
