Job Description
The Building People, LLC, has an immediate opening for a Project Manager - Building Controls We are looking for a mid-level project management professional with demonstrated capacity to manage multiple construction projects across multiple sites concurrently. The Project Manager will lead planning, scheduling, coordination, execution, and closeout activities for active construction projects, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, within scope, and within budget. This role requires strong field coordination, client communication, subcontractor oversight, and senior-level proficiency using Microsoft Project to build, maintain, and report against integrated project schedules. The ideal candidate can work with minimal oversight, balance competing priorities across geographically dispersed sites, proactively manage risks and constraints, and provide clear project visibility to clients, leadership, and delivery teams. Candidate may be remote/telework during times when onsite work is not required if candidate can arrive in the Washington DC metro within two (2) days' notice.

Required Experience & Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across clients, internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel
  • Senior-level proficiency with Microsoft Project, including creation, maintenance, baseline management, critical path analysis, resource loading, progress updates, and executive-level schedule reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple construction projects across multiple sites concurrently while maintaining control of scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and stakeholder communications
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contracting staff, subcontractors, and project delivery teams
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, work breakdown structures, milestone schedules, look-ahead schedules, and project controls for all assigned construction projects
  • Coordinate construction activities with site leads, superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, facility stakeholders, engineering teams, and client representatives
  • Manage the full project life cycle from initiation, planning, procurement, mobilization, execution, commissioning/readiness, closeout, and lessons learned
  • Monitor project progress against approved schedules and budgets; identify schedule variances, resource constraints, risks, and issues; and implement corrective action plans
  • Prepare regular client and leadership reporting, including milestone status, schedule performance, risk logs, issue logs, change impacts, and recovery plans
  • Review scopes of work, estimates, submittals, RFIs, change requests, progress documentation, and closeout materials to support effective construction delivery
  • Provide on-site leadership as required to coordinate field execution, resolve constraints, support quality control, and maintain alignment with project requirements
  • Maintain strong project governance practices, including meeting cadence, action tracking, schedule discipline, document control, and decision escalation
  • Effectively utilize company resources, subcontractor capacity, and vendor support to deliver concurrent projects efficiently
  • At least seven (7) years of relevant construction project management experience, including demonstrated responsibility for multiple concurrent projects and multiple active sites

Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Experience managing construction projects in occupied facilities, federal facilities, commercial facilities, or other multi-stakeholder environments
  • Experience coordinating work across geographically dispersed sites or multiple active job sites at the same time
  • Experience with building systems, infrastructure upgrades, controls, smart building technology, or related facility modernization projects
  • Experience with construction project controls, cost forecasting, schedule recovery planning, and change management
  • PMP, CCM, OSHA 30, or similar project management, construction management, or safety credential preferred

Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or another related technical or management field; equivalent experience may be considered

Preferred Education
  • Advanced training or certification in Microsoft Project, construction management, project controls, PMP, CCM, OSHA 30, or related disciplines

Travel
  • Travel may be required based on client location (domestic)
  • Candidate may be remote during times when onsite work is not required if candidate can arrive in the Washington DC metro within two (2) days notice.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times
