- You will perform industrial hygiene inspections, surveys and evaluations individually or as part of a team.
- You will assess work practices to identify the population at risk and to detect violations of published health standards (e.g. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, DoD and DoN directives).
- You will present oral briefs, if requested, and provide detailed written reports of IH survey findings including hazards identified, assessment of the hazards, exposure monitoring required and controls recommended.
- You will evaluate the need for quantitative assessment of air contamination; noise and other physical stressors as well as the quantitative assessment of ventilation systems.
- You will prepare written workplace monitoring plans and track their completion, updating the plans as necessary.
- You will maintain, calibrate, and select appropriate equipment and media and conduct or oversee sampling.
- You will prepare notifications as required and documentation for personnel medical records.
- You will recommend engineering controls to correct deficiencies where feasible.
- You will recommend medical surveillance for employees who are potentially over exposed to hazardous materials, noise, and physical hazards.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

GS-12:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience assessing work practices to identify the population at risk and to detect violations of published health standards (e.g. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, DoD and DoN directives).
- Experience providing detailed written reports of IH survey findings including hazards identified, assessment of the hazards, exposure monitoring required and controls recommended.
- Experience reviewing IH survey findings with occupational health command medical surveillance representatives to help identify employees at risk who require medical surveillance.
- Experience advising management staff and safety office staff on respiratory protection, storage and handling of chemicals, and upon request, performs unscheduled evaluations and accompanies special inspection teams.
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience utilizing industrial hygiene concepts, principles and practices, applicable to planning and carrying out all industrial hygiene programs concerned with a wide variety of industrial sites and research laboratories.
- Experience applying knowledge required to recognize and evaluate occupational health hazards, including those for which the nature and extent of hazard is not completely understood.
- Experience devising a variety of control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, change in work procedures, isolation, education, and personal protective equipment.
- Experience applying knowledge required to recognize and evaluate proposed new work processes and/or materials and or recommend measures to minimize health hazards.
- Experience using DOEHRS-IH and making statistical exposure assessments is preferred.
- Experience with AIHA's Exposure Risk Assessment & Management Tools is preferred.
GS-09:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience utilizing knowledge of industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices, applicable to planning and carrying out all industrial hygiene programs for Navy and Marine Corps activities concerned with a wide variety of industrial sites and research laboratories.
- Experience recognizing and evaluating occupational health hazards.
- Experience evaluating proposed new work processes and/or materials and or recommend measures to minimize health hazards.
- Experience collecting industrial hygiene samples and utilizing industrial hygiene sampling equipment.
GS-07:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience utilizing knowledge of industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices.
- Experience recognizing occupational health hazards.
- Experience devising a variety of control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, change in work procedures, isolation, education, personal protective devices.
- Experience evaluating new work processes.
GS-05:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience utilizing professional knowledge of industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices, applicable to planning and carrying out all industrial hygiene programs for Navy and Marine Corps activities concerned with a wide variety of industrial sites and research laboratories.
- Experience recognizing and evaluating occupational health hazards, including those for which the nature and extent of hazard is not completely understood.
- Experiencing devising a variety of control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, change in work procedures, isolation, education, personal protective devices.

- A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
- A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
- Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH)). Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
