Job Description

Duties

  • You will install transformers, capacitors, insulators, lightening arrestors, switch circuit breakers, fuses, meters, protective devices, and other equipment for main distribution lines over 600V.
  • You will install, modify, and replace generation and distribution equipment in substations, power-generating facilities, transformer vaults, and/or distribution centers.
  • You will service circuit elements found in substations and/or power-generating facilities, as well as the electrical portions of generators, located above ground and underground.
  • You will check condition of transformers, switches, and cable.
  • You will troubleshoot distribution circuits and generating and controlling equipment to locate and correct the causes of outages and improper operation.
  • You will make emergency cutouts and substitutions of power line.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN without more than normal supervision. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Troubleshooting and replacing circuit boards in the controls of equipment such as electronic reclosers and ether similar devices. 2) hot-line tools and protective equipment such as hot-sticks, wire tongs, wire tong supports, insulated tension links, tie sticks, insulated hoods/covers and tools, and rubber gloves, sleeves, and insulating blankets. 3) Utilizing knowledge and skills in electrical principles, procedures, materials, and safety standards governing electrical systems over 600 volts. 4) Planning, carrying-out, troubleshooting and repairing, high voltage generating, controlling, and distribution systems, such as repairing switch gear, installing and hooking up transfo1mers, locating defects in cables, or selecting materials to make installations or repairs. 5) Diagnosing and determining corrective actions for electric power-controlling equipment such as switch gear, transformer banks, and circuit breakers in substations and power-generating facilities.
