As a Financial Project Management Specialist, you will drive the financial execution of large-scale capital projects for the Department of Education. You'll collaborate with leadership, oversee multi-million-dollar budgets, and engage with key city agencies and contractors, making a direct impact on school communities. Responsibilities - Lead end-to-end procurement processes for equipment, services, and materials across capital-funded DOE projects. - Oversee daily accounts payable operations for 50+ contractors, ensuring capital budgets remain on track and within compliance thresholds. - Conduct detailed financial analysis of project expenditures, verifying disbursements meet all legal, programmatic, and financial requirements. - Validate contractor billing, ensuring accurate invoicing and timely vendor payments. - Partner with NYC Comptroller and DASNY to support audits and respond to payment inquiries. - Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and school partners to manage logistics and optimize financial reporting workflows. Required Skills and Experience - Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years of experience in financial analysis or management reporting, or Master's degree in a relevant field plus 1+ year of professional experience in budget administration or analysis. - Minimum 4 years managing large-scale project budgets. - Solid understanding of public finance, procurement processes, and municipal government operations. - Advanced MS Office (Excel, Word) skills and familiarity with database management (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL Server). - Demonstrated ability to multitask and independently manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. - Exceptional analytical and stakeholder management skills. Preferred Skills - Experience with NYC, DOE, or SCA financial tracking systems. - Exposure to school capital projects, public sector audits, or large government contracts.
