ERG is seeking a Junior Facilities Planner to support the planning, development, and execution of facility and infrastructure planning initiatives. Working alongside senior planners, engineers, architects, environmental specialists, and government stakeholders, this individual will assist with developing installation master plans, capital improvement strategies, and facility planning documents that support mission requirements and federal planning guidance.  


This is a fulltime onsite position at the Naval Support Facility (NSF) Indian Head. Indian Head, MD, is approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC, 25 miles from Alexandria, VA, and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, VA.   

Job Description:


  • Support the development and update of installation master plans, area development plans, and supporting planning documents

  • Assist with analyzing land use, facility utilization, transportation systems, utilities, environmental constraints, and facility conditions to support long-term planning efforts

  • Collect, organize, and analyze planning data to support facility and infrastructure planning studies

  • Prepare technical reports, maps, graphics, and presentations under the guidance of senior planners

  • Assist in ensuring planning products comply with applicable federal guidance, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and agency planning standards

  • Facilitate and lead planning charrettes and workshops

  • Coordinate and conduct interviews with stakeholders

  • Prepare and review alternatives of analyses for proposed projects

  • Prepare and review cost estimates, space requirements documents, and economic analyses 




Required Qualifications and Skills:


  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Community Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geography, Environmental Planning, or a related field

  • 0–3 years of professional experience in facilities planning, urban planning, campus planning, infrastructure planning, or a related field  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical documentation

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple assignments

  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations 




Preferred Qualifications and Skills:


  • Internship or professional experience supporting federal, Department of Defense (DoD), or other government clients

  • Familiarity with installation master planning principles, land use planning, or capital planning processes

  • Exposure to Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) or federal planning guidance

  • Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro

  • Experience preparing technical reports, maps, or planning documents

  • Interest in pursuing American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification or professional planning credentials in the future 




$68,000 - $90,000 a year
