Operations Research Analyst

Duties

• Design mathematical and statistical models to conduct cost-benefit analyses.
• Evaluate data sets utilizing economic analysis techniques to simulate process features.
• Assess proposed policies and system capabilities to determine cost effectiveness and feasibility.
• Formulate assumptions and measures of effectiveness to support resource acquisition decisions.
• Present analytical findings to senior leadership to inform strategic decision-making.
• Negotiate technical operations research solutions with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Direct the work of subordinate personnel based on organizational priorities and assignment difficulty.
• Appraise employee performance to provide developmental feedback and recommend awards.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Personnel must pass drug screening prior to hiring and will be subject to periodic and random drug testing, thereafter, in accordance with AR 600-85 and Department of Defense Directive 2010.9.
• May require TDY travel up to 30 days CONUS and OCONUS up to 20% of the time
• May require uncommon tour of duty hours, working either fixed or rotating shift which may include evening, weekends, and holidays
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Basic Requirement: Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience applying mathematical and statistical models to conduct cost-benefit analyses; evaluating system capabilities to inform strategic planning; presenting technical research findings to stakeholders to support decision-making; and guiding project teams in the execution of analytical studies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next/second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13)
