Duration: 12-Month Contract
Travel: Up to 25%

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Automation Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support large-scale enterprise and government-focused IT environments. This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automation solutions across infrastructure, cloud, security, and operational platforms. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in scripting, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), configuration management, and secure automation practices while driving operational efficiency and standardization.

This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, mission-critical environments and contribute to automation strategies that improve scalability, compliance, and operational excellence.

What You'll Do:
• Design, develop, and maintain automation solutions using Python, PowerShell, Bash, and Shell scripting.
• Create and support Ansible playbooks, roles, workflows, and standardized operational runbooks.
• Implement and manage Terraform-based Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions across cloud and on-premises environments.
• Develop secure automation practices utilizing HashiCorp Vault for secrets management, credential rotation, and PKI integrations.
• Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments, infrastructure changes, and operational processes.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and operations teams to streamline and standardize workflows.
• Troubleshoot complex automation-related issues and drive continuous process improvement.
• Ensure automation solutions align with organizational governance, compliance, and change management requirements.
• Produce technical documentation and operational procedures to support enterprise-scale environments.

Required Qualifications:
• Active Secret Security Clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
○ Python
○ PowerShell
○ Bash/Shell scripting
• Proven experience with Ansible automation and configuration management.
• Strong expertise with HashiCorp Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.
• Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as:
○ Git
○ GitHub
○ GitLab
○ Jenkins
○ Azure DevOps
• Experience with HashiCorp Vault and secure credential management practices.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
• Experience working within regulated, compliant, or large-scale enterprise environments.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting federal government or defense environments.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure environments.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes, change management, and operational governance frameworks.

Additional Information:
• Contract duration: 1 year
• Travel requirement: Up to 25%
• Candidates must be willing to convert to a full-time employee if offered. The customer reserves the right to hire the consultant after 90 days.
