Job Summary:
The MILSATCOM Senior Technician will report directly to the MILSATCOM Lead. This position is located at Pituffik Space Base, Greenland.
The MILSATCOM Senior Technician assists the MILSATCOM Lead with the overall activities of the Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) work center. Objectives of the position are to directly complement the operations, maintenance, engineering/analysis tasks necessary to meet MILSATCOM operational requirements. The major emphasis is to ensure contractor-controlled availability rates meet or exceed Performance Work Statement (PWS) requirements, that site reporting is accomplished flawlessly, and critical system failures are rapidly and accurately reported and resolved. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned to meet the changing needs of contract performance. He or she shall conduct initial training of new personnel and recurring training for all personnel in the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellite constellation, the AN/GSC-52B Modernized Earth Terminal, the AN/FRC-191 Family of Advanced Beyond Line-of-Site (FAB-T) Satellite System, and other areas as required. The Senior Technician shall be well versed in the operations of a Technical Control Facility (TCF) and will act upon and manage circuit implementations in accordance with Defense Information Systems Agency directives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the MILSATCOM Lead with the supervision of the communications maintenance work center utilizing the appropriate operating instructions, Technical Orders, and Defense Information System Agency (DISA) Circulars, in the operation and repair of equipment. Ensure operational availability requirements are satisfied in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS). Comprehends technical data and can use test equipment for system troubleshooting and repair.
- Responsible for the training of new personnel in a timely manner and conducting recurring training as needed.
- Updates training records and ensures training programs are up to date with the installation or removal of equipment.
- Creates and submits appropriate reports (satellite equipment reports, outage reports, unscheduled event reports) as needed. Requests Authorized Service Interruption's (ASI's) as needed to perform maintenance.
- Is responsible for the efficient operation of all assigned ancillary systems/equipment within the MILSATCOM work center (i.e. CPS, DRSN, AMDOTS, etc.).
- Is the alternate equipment custodian responsible for maintaining the Custodian Inventory Report (CIR) and all associated paperwork for the account. Works in conjunction with supply on matters of turning in or ordering of equipment items. Conducts inventories of all equipment and ensure that they are labeled correctly.
- Is the alternate COMSEC Responsible Officer (CRO) for the area. Receives and accounts for all new COMSEC from the COMSEC Manager (CSM). Ensure proper shift to shift inventory of all COMSEC material is conducted and annotated in the Master Station Log (MSL).
- Executes crypto updates and verify proper destruction practices are being followed and annotated in the correct forms. Creates Emergency Action Plans (EAP) for situations in accordance with proper directives.
- Works with Network Control Terminals (NCT), telecommunications users, Network Operation System Centers (NOSC) and other facilities in the timely troubleshooting and restoration of communications.
- Coordinates with the Precision Measurement Equipment Lab (PMEL) on ordering new test equipment or repair/replacement of older test equipment. Turn in and receive equipment that needs to be calibrated and returned from calibration.
- Coordinates with other agencies and offices concerning equipment installations.
- Is accountable for supply point and bench stock items. Requests funds prior to utilization of parts. Conducts a monthly inventory of bench stock items and completes annual/periodic inventories.
- Executes the proper actions for incoming and outgoing classified documents and equipment. Ensure the proper documentation and packaging of these items.
- Update operating instructions to account for new procedures or policies.
- Is the Chief of Records (COR) for the office, oversees the office filing system to ensure completeness and correct filling of items using the AFRIMS program IAW Air Force Policies, DISA Circulars, and other directives.
- Input equipment data Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMI) schedules into the Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS). Checks weekly status of overdue PMIs and corrects errors to input data.
Educational/Training Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Completion of civilian or military SATCOM training, Technical Control training or the equivalent.
- AFWET MET or MILSTAR or FAB-T experience a plus.
- Minimum of four years of experience in office administration with demonstrated skills in the use of automated office products such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Required Skills/Experience:
- COMPTIA Security+ certification required.
- Preference is given for a degree in communications, computers, or electrical systems training along with military leadership and management experience to include military leadership schools.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbally.
Clearance Requirements:
- Currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain the proper US DoD issued security clearance, which requires US Citizenship. Security clearance eligibility may be discussed during the interview phase.
- Employment and start date are contingent upon the candidate receiving the required US DoD issued interim security clearance
Supervision:
- The MILSATCOM Lead serves as the general supervisor for the MILSATCOM Senior Technician.
- Responsibilities for Work of Others: Ensures all work center personnel perform their tasks as assigned.
- During MILSATCOM Lead absence, MILSATCOM Senior Technician is primary interface between Site Management and work center.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Be able to walk at least 500 feet in extremely cold weather, negotiate multiple sets of stairs without assistance, and can distinguish colors. Rotation schedule will be 8 weeks on and 5 weeks off with possibility of adjustment. A 72-hour work week will be the norm.
- MILSATCOM Senior Technician rotation schedule will offset MILSATCOM Lead.

- Walking, sitting, typing, bending and lifting items as required within position requirements.
