Position Summary
The Field Technician III provides advanced technical support and field services for Air Education and Training Command (AETC) personnel at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Randolph AFB. This role serves as a senior technical resource and escalation point for complex IT issues involving enterprise desktop systems, network-connected devices, and collaboration technologies.
The Field Technician III supports the delivery of reliable, secure, and compliant IT services while ensuring adherence to Department of the Air Force cybersecurity, asset management, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Technical Support
Provide Tier II technical support for enterprise desktop systems, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices.
Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and network connectivity issues impacting mission operations.
Install, configure, and maintain Windows-based operating systems, enterprise applications, and workstation configurations.
Support troubleshooting and configuration of Video Teleconferencing (VTC) systems and conference room technologies.
Enterprise IT Operations
Respond to and resolve service requests and incidents using the Enterprise IT Service Management (EITSM) platform in accordance with established service level agreements.
Coordinate with the Air Force Enterprise Service Desk and enterprise support organizations to resolve escalated technical issues.
Assist with deployment of new IT equipment, system upgrades, and workstation refresh initiatives.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
Ensure systems are configured and maintained in compliance with Department of the Air Force cybersecurity policies, including:
DAFMAN 17-1203
DoDM 8140.03 workforce requirements
AFSSI 8580
Tasking Orders and Cybersecurity Directives (TCNOs)
Support remediation of system vulnerabilities and security compliance findings.
Ensure proper handling and safeguarding of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and Government information systems.
Asset & Property Management
Assist with IT asset lifecycle management, including equipment deployment, transfers, and replacement.
Maintain accountability of Government IT equipment within the Defense Property Accountability System (DPAS) as required.
Support the Property Custodian in conducting annual and special inventories in coordination with the Base Equipment Control Officer (BECO).
Team Support & Operational Coordination
Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior field technicians.
Assist the Program Manager I and Field Technician IV in resolving high-impact technical issues.
Support technology refresh initiatives, system upgrades, and operational improvements.
Required Qualifications
DoDM 8140.03 Intermediate proficiency level certification (minimum).
Minimum 6 years of experience supporting enterprise IT environments, preferably within a DoD or federal environment.
Minimum 3 years of experience providing advanced field services or Tier II technical support.
Demonstrated experience supporting:
Windows enterprise desktop environments
Desktop hardware and peripheral devices
Network connectivity troubleshooting
Enterprise collaboration or VTC systems
Experience using IT service management platforms for incident tracking and resolution.
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in mission-critical environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Air Force communications or AETC environments.
ITIL Foundation certification.
Experience with Defense Property Accountability System (DPAS) or IT asset management systems.
Experience supporting large enterprise environments (1,000+ users).
