Job Description
Markon is seeking a Software Engineer to support the Fort Meade customer by architecting and modernizing high-performance backend applications that enable mission-critical operations. This role leads the design and development of distributed services, scalable APIs, and containerized application platforms while establishing engineering standards that promote performance, reliability, and maintainability. The role provides technical leadership across Agile teams, guiding software modernization efforts and delivering resilient enterprise solutions that support evolving mission requirements.

- Architect, design, and develop large-scale, high-performance backend applications and distributed services.
- Lead Java application and RESTful API development supporting enterprise mission capabilities.
- Design and implement event-driven and message-based workflows using RabbitMQ or comparable messaging technologies.
- Engineer, deploy, and optimize containerized applications within Kubernetes environments.
- Establish software engineering standards for coding, testing, performance, security, scalability, and maintainability.
- Diagnose and resolve complex system-wide issues spanning applications, messaging services, databases, and infrastructure.
- Mentor software engineers through architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance.
- Evaluate architectural tradeoffs and lead modernization of legacy applications and distributed systems.
- Coordinate technical priorities across Agile teams while adapting to evolving mission requirements.
- Develop technical documentation, architectural decisions, and production readiness assessments.
Required Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI w/ Polygraph with this Customer.
- Bachelor's degree and 20+ years of software engineering experience.
- Expert experience designing and developing large-scale, high-performance backend applications and distributed systems.
- Expert experience developing Java applications and RESTful APIs.
- Experience with Kubernetes and message broker technologies such as RabbitMQ.
- Experience troubleshooting complex, enterprise-scale application, messaging, and infrastructure issues.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring software engineers, conducting code reviews, and leading technical design efforts.
- Experience with Git, Atlassian tools, IntelliJ, or Eclipse.
- Strong technical leadership, analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Kotlin, Python, MongoDB, or Apache NiFi.
- Experience designing event-driven and distributed system architectures.
- Experience establishing software quality, performance, security, and testing standards.
- Experience modernizing enterprise applications supporting Intelligence Community missions.
