• Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for a who will be responsible for conducting ship checks aboard US Naval Vessels to verify the scope of work outlined in USN Work Notifications, located in Marysville, WA. 

• The Specification Development and Advance Execution Support (SDAES) Division, is responsible for conducting ship checks onboard Navy Vessels of Work Notifications (WN) brokered in support of Work Item (WI) development by the planners. A ship check consists of reviewing the brokered WN for accuracy and work scope, identifying components & equipment, associated system piping, and ship's structure to accurately describe existing conditions to properly develop Work Items/Specifications (WIs). 


• After the ship check is completed on-board the ship, required reports and forms that contain ship check information including sketches & photographs, will be forwarded to the respective planner for work item development.  As ship checkers gain knowledge and experience, the expectation is to follow a progression from ship checker to specification planner.  The planner function is recognized as the prime function of the Division, and ultimately ship checkers will aspire to this role after developing the requisite experience.


• Examine the affected equipment, system piping and ship’s structure.


• Ship check products (sketches, photographs, and other data) will support advance planning, writing of repair work items/specifications and estimation of labor, material and subcontractor work at the paragraph and line-item level for U.S. Navy Ship repair work, alterations, and modifications.


• Assessing ship’s material condition by reviewing work notification scope of work and conducting a ship check to validate the scope of work.  Ship checker will collaborate with the planner/estimator in researching ships documents, analysis of ships conditions and test, determining scope of work required by reviewing and validating Work Notifications (2-Kilos).


• Using applicable drawings and references, conduct ship checks onboard Navy vessels in direct support of the Planners to validate the work notification, determine the scope of repair, and provide the Planner with amplifying information to aid in work item development.


• Identify interferences and any other special circumstances that will impact the planning process and work item development.


• Document the ship checks with detailed information and photographs on the approved ship check forms in PDF format that can be used in the work item development and uploaded into NMD by the Planners.


• Interpreting and using all technical and material information available in Navy, Shipbuilder and Manufacturer drawings, technical manuals, documents, or Equipment Manufacture’s data and/or other pertinent commercial data to identify repair and modification requirements and to identify, price and order materials.


• Identify interferences and any other special circumstances that will impact the planning process and Work Item development.


• Support development of work items/specifications in accordance with company and JFMM (Joint Force Maintenance Manual) 4-E requirements using company and NAVSEA instructions and pertinent NAVSEA Standard Items, Class Standard Items, and Local Standard Items.


• Work with and in the Navy Maintenance Database (NMD) and use the available application program to support development of work items/specifications and labor, material, and cost estimates in accordance with company and NAVSEA instructions and directives.

• Must have High school diploma or equivalent and appropriate Trade School or related Armed Forces School or at least 7 years related experience.


• Must have extensive knowledge of Navy ship compartmentation and lay-out.


• Must have knowledge of Navy Structural, Mechanical, Piping, and Electrical systems. 


• Must have the ability to read, understand and validate Work Notification and to determine the scope of work contained within the Work Notification.


• Must have comprehensive writing and communication skills capable of both verbal and written findings and recommendations to the Planner/Estimators.

• Associate’s degree or higher is preferred


• Prefer a self-starter with the ability to work well with others as part of the ship check team.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain at least a DoD Confidential Security Clearance and a Common Access Card (CAC) to gain access to government information and work sites, naval shipyards, and private shipyards.

• Occasional travel -less than 10%


• 10% overseas travel expected.  Must be able to obtain a Passport, CAC and or DBIDS pass.


• If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. • Physical ability to climb ladders, transit decks and perform work on Navy vessels and the harsh environments found in shipboard compartments.


• Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes.  The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.


• Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.


• Communicating with others to exchange information.


• Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
