Job Description
About the Company
We are partnering with an early-stage, venture-backed technology company building mission-critical software for spectrum access, licensing, data management, and technical analysis across government, defense, satellite, and other highly regulated environments.
The company is replacing slow, manual workflows with modern software that helps organizations manage complex operational data, navigate regulatory processes, and make faster technical decisions. The team is small, engineering-led, and already supporting real customers in production.
About the Role
We are looking for a backend-leaning Full Stack Software Engineer who wants meaningful ownership and the opportunity to build major parts of a platform from the ground up.
You will work across backend services, APIs, data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and customer-facing product surfaces. This is a hands-on individual contributor role for an engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous problems, making architectural decisions, and working directly with customers and company leadership.
The ideal balance is approximately 70% backend and 30% frontend.
What You’ll Do
Design, build, and operate production backend services and APIs
Own features and systems from initial customer discovery through deployment
Build scalable data-processing and event-driven workflows
Develop secure authentication, authorization, and role-based access-control systems
Work with large, complex datasets and mission-critical operational workflows
Build customer-facing product experiences using modern frontend technologies
Deploy and operate services in AWS-based cloud environments
Establish reliable testing, observability, CI/CD, and production-support practices
Evaluate architectural tradeoffs and challenge assumptions, including AI-generated technical recommendations
Collaborate directly with customers, engineers, and company leadership
What We’re Looking For
3–6 years of professional full-stack or backend software engineering experience
Recent experience owning and shipping meaningful production systems
Strong backend development experience, ideally using Python
Experience designing REST, GraphQL, or equivalent production APIs
Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure
Experience with event-driven or distributed architectures using Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ, pub/sub systems, or similar technologies
Experience with relational databases, data modeling, and production data workflows
Ability to contribute across frontend technologies such as React and TypeScript
Experience building authentication, authorization, IAM, or RBAC functionality
Strong technical judgment and the ability to explain architectural decisions and tradeoffs
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable remaining a hands-on individual contributor in a fast-moving startup environment
Strong Plus
Experience at a Seed–Series C startup or as an early/founding engineer
Experience building a product or system from zero to production
AWS GovCloud experience
Current or previous U.S. security clearance
Experience supporting government, defense, aerospace, satellite, or regulated-industry customers
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or similar infrastructure tooling
Familiarity with AI coding tools and the ability to critically evaluate their output
Customer-facing engineering, solutions engineering, or forward-deployed experience
You may be a strong fit if you:
Prefer ownership over narrowly scoped tickets
Enjoy turning incomplete customer needs into production software
Can move quickly without sacrificing technical judgment
Are comfortable working across backend, infrastructure, data, and frontend systems
Ask why systems work instead of relying entirely on existing playbooks
Want to stay close to the code and are not looking to move immediately into management
Communicate clearly, collaborate without ego, and enjoy working with customers
Work Environment
This is a highly collaborative, in-person engineering environment in New York City. Team members work onsite five days per week and have direct influence over the product, architecture, and customer experience.
Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
