Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support facility modernization and engineering initiatives at a federal installation in Indian Head, Maryland. This role provides an opportunity to work on unique and technically challenging facilities, including historic infrastructure spanning nearly 90 years and supporting missions tied to national defense and advanced manufacturing.
The site includes more than 900 buildings, featuring a wide variety of engineering challenges involving aging infrastructure, modernization efforts, specialized equipment, and facilities supporting energetic manufacturing processes.
The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical engineering design, HVAC systems, MEP construction documentation, and facility upgrades while working within highly regulated environments.
This is a full-time, on-site position. Candidates must be available for occasional travel to the federal site in Indian Head, MD. The role will involve collaboration with personnel located at the federal site as well as offices in Chantilly, VA and Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities:
- Primarily requires development of requirements and technical review of design packages as well as occasional design work
- Prepare technical memoranda/reports that summarize information, such as preventative maintenance status reports and long-term upgrade budgetary projections
- Complete facility design services and support review of designs for compliance with code and energetic manufacturing processes to help our client realize state-of-the-art facilities through construction and commissioning
- Support modernizing facilities in compliance with local, state, and federal codes
- Collaborate/communicate effectively with other stakeholders internal to, and external to the design team (e.g., engineering and manufacturing departments)
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum 8 years of professional engineering experience; 10+ years preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD or comparable drafting/design software.
- Experience designing and reviewing HVAC systems and mechanical equipment selections.
- Experience developing and reviewing MEP construction drawing packages.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering compliance requirements within industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Experience supporting facilities with specialized environmental requirements, including:
- Strict temperature and humidity controls
- Industrial mechanical systems
- Explosion-proof equipment and hazardous environments
- Strong technical writing, communication, and project coordination skills.
Security Clearance Requirements
- Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clearance requirements.
