Creative Arts Therapist (Art)

• Provide advanced creative arts therapy services to meet the psychiatric and medical needs of patients.
• Document therapeutic procedures utilized and record patient evaluation and performance.
• Provide individual and group sessions using creative arts therapy.
• Train interns in creative arts therapy including curriculum, learning objectives, oversight, evaluation and grading.
• Provide clinical and administrative oversight over creative arts therapy staff and interns.

• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

• Tuberculosis (TB): This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• This position may have a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement
• Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.

A Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in therapeutic recreation, art therapy, drama therapy, dance therapy, or music therapy from an accrediting program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in a related field involving therapeutic emphasis or concentration that included at least 36 semester hours in therapeutic courses as described as:
1. 18 semester hours of therapeutic recreation courses;
AND
2. 18 semester hours that include a combination of abnormal psychology, physiology, human anatomy and development, disabilities and general recreation

Education must have been obtained from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0638 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Conducting art therapy evaluations of patients; Assisting with individual or group therapy; Implementing medical treatment recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: therapeutic recreation, art therapy, drama therapy, dance therapy, or music therapy

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
