Job Description



  • Review, decode, and disseminate official message traffic and directives from senior military commands.
  • Monitor multiple information systems (e.g., email, portals, chat) and open sources to identify and track events impacting operations.
  • Prepare and deliver daily operational briefings and critical incident reports (e.g., SITREP, OPREP) to senior leadership, including General Officers.
  • Develop and maintain operational doctrine and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the operations center.
  • Integrate information flow by bridging the gap between headquarters, subordinate commands, and interagency operations centers.
  • Collaborate with military command centers, interagency partners, and non-governmental organizations during exercises and crisis response efforts.
  • Establish and operate secure and unsecure teleconferencing systems to facilitate communication during routine operations and crises.
  • React to crises in a high-stress, 24/7 environment, making critical judgments and formulating recommendations with potential national impact.





  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes analyzing operational information from multiple sources to provide situational awareness within a 24/7 command center environment; AND preparing operational reports to support senior leader decision-making; AND coordinating response efforts with internal and external organizations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
