Job Description
Are you looking to use your facilities expertise in a fast-paced environment supporting a fascinating industry? The Facilities Engineering Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing strategic and cost-effective approaches to modifications and repairs of our facilities. This role includes ensuring the reliability of building equipment, assessing building systems, planning and documenting maintenance activities, and coordinating with vendors to provide necessary services while minimizing disruption to operations.

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $74,581.13 - $102,549.04. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors, such as candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.

- Operate and maintain the wastewater system in compliance with site and environmental standards, including pH adjustment, discharge monitoring, and daily log documentation.
- Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on boilers, wastewater systems, and utility equipment to support safe and reliable operation.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain pumps, valves, controllers, and utility infrastructure to ensure proper performance and minimize downtime.
- Document all work performed and communicate system or equipment concerns promptly to the Maintenance Manager.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and operational procedures for wastewater, utilities, and facility systems.
- Maintain chemical handling practices, including labeling, storage, and adherence to SDS and PPE requirements.
- Support preventive maintenance efforts, including filter changes, pump inspections, and utility system adjustments.
- Assist with maintaining housekeeping standards in utility, wastewater, and equipment areas..
- Associate's degree in a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in a related role.
- Relevant experience can be considered as a substitute for the required educational qualifications. In the absence of a degree, a minimum of 2 years of related experience is required.
- Basic understanding of building systems and maintenance principles.
- Experience working with wastewater systems or plant utilities.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical troubleshooting for equipment operation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and communicate clearly with maintenance and safety leadership.
- Must be able to obtain, within 6 months of hire, a , issued by the Maryland Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators (COMAR 26.06.01).
- Valid driver's license.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with AutoCAD.
- Ability to alter and create 2-dimensional floor plan drawings.
- Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- Capable of periodic and/or daily travel between facilities.

- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Certification in Facilities Management (e.g., IFMA CFM, FMP).
- Possess a , issued by the Maryland Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators (COMAR 26.06.01).
- Basic knowledge of or proficiency with basic building utilities and equipment.
- Practical familiarization with standard project management principles.
- Prior experience with understanding utility and space requirements as applicable to construction documents and equipment installation.
- Fundamental understanding of the considerations applicable to facility layout & design, adjacencies, work flow and basic lean manufacturing and waste minimization concepts.
- OSHA 30 card.
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military.
- Ability to work in an office or hybrid environment.
- Proficiency in using standard office software and facilities management tools.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform computer-based tasks.
- Physical capability to move equipment and assist in setup and teardown activities.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Ability to travel as required.
