ICF's Digital Modernization and Experience (DMX)Division, a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial, technology-driven department, is seeking a with experience in biospecimen science to support our federal client.
The serves as a biospecimen science subject matter expert by providing scientific guidance, reviewing and synthesizing biomedical literature, and curating high-quality content for the Biospecimen Research Database. Supports database development and functionality, identifies relevant scientific publications through comprehensive literature searches, and contributes to scientific writing, editing, figure preparation, and manuscript evaluation to advance high-impact research and publication efforts.

- This is a part-time, on-call role with variable hours based on project needs (from 0-25 hours per week).
- Provide background in biospecimen science and serve as a subject matter expert in internal and external meetings.
- Provide biological perspective to enhance searchability of papers in the Biospecimen Research Database (BRD) and for potential development. Report issues with the BRD and verify functionality following updates.
- Review scientific and medical literature and extract salient information from scientific publications, summarize and enter papers into the Biospecimen Research Database.
- Identify relevant scientific papers to include in the database using standard science literature search and bibliography tools, such as PubMed, Web of Science and End/Note as well as cross-referencing.
- Provide scientific and medical writing and/or editing for peer-reviewed scientific journals, including figure making, writing and finding relevant prior publications for citation.
- Evaluate the scientific value and potential for publication of program manuscripts based on background knowledge. Including evaluation of need for additional figures/data analysis, potential impact and effort required for publication.
- Identify and recruit NIH and external organizations as potential standard operating procedure (SOP) sources and curate SOPs contributed.
- Gather, present and distribute data on usage of the BRD.
- Provide annual download reports to source organization and update curations to reflect changes in source status as needed.
- Identify scientific areas of growing interest for priority in curation and evidence-based biospecimen procedural guidelines.
- Develop and/or contribute to the development of Biospecimen Evidence-Based Practice (BEBP) guidelines, including identifying and summarizing literature; identifying and recruiting experts, seeking guidance through emails and organization of meetings with participating experts, Additionally, compose first author collaborative articles in peer-reviewed journals to announce BEBP release.
- Collaborate with program directors and funded grantees to evaluate and improve the progress of Working Groups. Assist in the development of collaborative products, including white papers and BEBPs by providing background research, direction and writing support. Help ensure that products are distinct by evaluating and communicating potential areas of overlap.
- Create progress reports, posters and presentations for internal meetings and scientific conferences.
- Identify topics and draft posts for the branch webpage and social media.
- Update products such as evidence-based practice documents for 508 compliance.
- Participate as needed in the development or review of a new or existing funded scientific concept and Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) by reviewing relevant literature, and editing as required.
- Prepare/refresh training documents as needed
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology or other related sciences
- 5+ years of experience of identifying literature, reviewing literature, curating, and drafting training materials;
- 5+ years of experience serving on working groups and facilitating the generation of resultant products; identifying topics for evidence-based recommendations and leading expert review.
- Strong knowledge of EndNote, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat
- Strong knowledge of PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar.
- 5+ years of experience writing, editing, formatting, and submitting primary and review articles, editorials and announcements for publication in scientific journals. Including drafting figures and performing data analysis.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust with the government
- (U.S.) and the (U.S.), as this work is for a federal contract, and laws do apply
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Experience using collaborative environments including SharePoint and Box.
- Experience with adapting papers for 508 compliance in Word and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience drafting and presenting progress reports, posters and presentations for Branch, Program, and Division meetings and scientific conferences.
- Strong analytical, communication, facilitation, and executive presentation skills
