Overview
The Operations & Maintenance (O&M) SME supports the Customer by developing comprehensive operational and maintenance documentation for specialized technical systems. Rather than performing routine maintenance, this role focuses on learning system functionality, operational workflows, and maintenance requirements through training, observation, and collaboration with technical personnel and vendors. The SME translates this knowledge into clear, structured operations and maintenance manuals, procedures, and reference materials that enable other personnel to effectively operate and maintain the systems. The position may require CONUS and OCONUS travel to observe system operations, attend training, and coordinate with system vendors and operational teams.

VTG's estimated starting pay range is $200,000-$210,000 annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.

What will you do?
- Attend formal training, vendor-led instruction, and technical briefings to develop in-depth knowledge of assigned technical systems.
- Observe system operations, maintenance activities, and workflows to fully understand system functionality and sustainment requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and operators to gather technical information and operational best practices.
- Develop Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical documentation for systems.
- Document system functionality, operational procedures, maintenance requirements, troubleshooting steps, and safety considerations.
- Ensure documentation is clear, structured, and accessible for operational users and maintenance personnel.
- Translate complex technical concepts and processes into clear operational guidance.
- Develop step-by-step procedures, diagrams, and reference materials to support system operation and sustainment.
- Maintain version control and update documentation as systems evolve or procedures change.
- Work with system vendors, engineers, and stakeholders to gather technical data and validate documentation accuracy.
- Participate in technical discussions to ensure manuals accurately reflect system capabilities, maintenance requirements, and operational procedures.
- Incorporate vendor documentation, training materials, and technical guidance into standardized government documentation.
- Attend system demonstrations, operational tests, and maintenance activities to capture procedures and lessons learned.
- Support the development of operational workflows and maintenance processes for documentation purposes.
- Provide clarification and updates to documentation based on user feedback and operational experience.
- Conduct CONUS and OCONUS travel as required to attend training, observe system operations, gather technical information, and coordinate with vendors and government personnel.
Do you have what it takes?
- Must have an active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
- Experience developing technical documentation, operations manuals, or standard operating procedures for complex systems.
- Ability to quickly learn and understand specia lized technical systems through training and hands-on observation.
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation.
- Experience coordinating with engineers, vendors, and technical personnel to gather and validate technical information.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness and ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS as required.
