TELECOMMUNICATION SPECIALIST

• You will plan and initiate technical studies and engineering measurements relating to spectrum density studies, field intensity and noise measurements, etc.
• You will respond to reports of Radio Frequency interference problems affecting communications/ electronics systems.
• You will make recommendations concerning staffing and budgetary requirements to assist in the planning, modification, utilization, and control of the electromagnetic spectrum.
• You will initiate the implementation of pertinent policies and procedures to provide for operations free of electromagnetic interference.
• You will assist in overseeing the utilization of all frequency spectrum assets by the military services comprising United States Forces Japan (USFJ).

• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
• This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area RF/Teleport Operations (47) within 6 months of appointment.
• This position requires completion of the Basic Spectrum Managers Course.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing technical and managerial program support of electromagnetic spectrum management and COMSEC in a joint and coalition environment; providing technical advisory assistance to military services and contractors on frequency spectrum allocation and equipment usage; and conducting negotiations with an international government for US forces use of electromagnetic spectrum.
