Program Overview

Herdt Consulting is seeking an experienced SAP S/4HANA Defense & Security (D&S) Procurement Lead to support a high-profile international defense modernization initiative. This program is transforming logistics operations through the implementation of a greenfield SAP S/4HANA Defense Readiness Management System (DRMS) utilizing SAP's Fit-to-Standard methodology. Your contribution will help modernize critical logistics capabilities by supporting defense readiness, digital transformation, and operational excellence for an international defense organization.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced SAP Materials Management (MM) functional consultant who enjoys configuration work, business process design, and collaborating with global project teams in an Agile implementation environment. Join the Herdt team to support one of the most significant SAP Defense & Security implementations currently underway!

Position Details

This is a 100% remote, part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) position with a flexible schedule designed to overlap with European project teams during core collaboration hours. Opportunity to participate in workshops that may occasionally require additional hours during a given week. W2, 1099, and C2C candidates will be considered - Third party submissions cannot be considered at this time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Configure and support SAP S/4HANA Materials Management (MM) functionality with a focus on procurement and logistics processes.
  • Design, configure, and test procurement functionality including:
    • Purchase Requisitions (PR)
    • Purchase Orders (PO)
    • Stock Transport Requests & Orders
    • Flexible Workflow
    • Goods Receipt and Quality Inspection
    • Material Batch Classification
    • Serial Number Processing
    • NATO Stock Number (NSN) management
    • FMPO functionality
  • Support business process design for:
    • Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
    • Foreign Aid material flows
    • Procurement of Services
    • Project Stock (WBS-managed) procurement
  • Participate in Fit-to-Standard workshops and solution design sessions.
  • Develop and execute functional testing to validate configured business processes.
  • Collaborate closely with functional, technical, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable SAP solutions.
  • Document functional specifications, configuration decisions, testing results, and process improvements.
  • Support cross-functional issue resolution across integrated SAP modules.
  • Contribute to Agile project delivery utilizing SAP Activate methodology.


Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of SAP functional consulting experience.
  • Hands-on SAP S/4HANA Defense & Security (D&S) implementation experience.
  • Strong SAP S/4HANA Materials Management (MM) configuration expertise.
  • Experience with procurement, inventory management, and logistics business processes.
  • Minimum of three full lifecycle SAP implementations.
  • Experience configuring and testing procurement processes including Purchase Requisitions, Purchase Orders, Flexible Workflow, Goods Receipt, Inventory Management, and Material Master.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a NATO security clearance.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting military, defense, aerospace, or government organizations.
  • Familiarity with: SAP CALM, SAP Signavio, and SAP Activate methodology
  • Understanding of Stocks & Provisions, Authorized Actuals Comparison (AAC), Storage Locations (SLOC), and MRP Area Master Data.
  • Familiarity with SAP PI/PO middleware is a plus.
  • Experience supporting global implementation programs with geographically distributed teams.
