Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Data Comm Avionics Lab at the William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) seeks a Technical Support Specialist to operate, maintain, and enhance the lab's capabilities in support of CPDLC (Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications) and DCNS (Data Communications Network Services) interoperability testing. This position requires intimate knowledge of the lab's design, construction, and installed systems/networks to maintain the current infrastructure and develop additional capabilities and scenarios as operational needs arise.

Job Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain the Data Comm avionics lab environment, ensuring continuous availability for CPDLC and DCNS interoperability testing
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Flight Management Systems (FMS) within the lab
  • Design, develop, and implement new test scenarios and capabilities as operational requirements dictate
  • Perform hardware and software maintenance on lab equipment, including upgrading and downgrading software and firmware version levels
  • Develop and implement low-level CSP (Communication Service Provider) protocol solutions
  • Design, maintain, and operate lab simulators
  • Design, develop, and maintain lab toolsets to support testing operations
  • Maintain lab connectivity with other WJHTC labs and external sources
  • Perform general lab network and system administration tasks
  • Support ARINC 429 interface integration and FMS integration with avionics systems/benches
  • Document lab configurations, procedures, and system changes

Note this role is Part-Time, 20 hours per week, and is not a Full-Time position, however benefits, some of which are prorated, will be offered. This could be a great opportunity if you are seeking a Part-Time role!

Location and Travel: Though the role allows for primarily remote work, the role also requires ability to work, on-site at the FAA Technical Center in Egg Harbor, N.J. for a period of approximately 2-3 days, approximately 6-7 times annually. Approved, reasonable and customary travel expenses will be covered.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work on-site, and travel if applicable, for periods of approximately 2-3 days per week at the FAA Technical Center in Egg Harbor, N.J., approximately 6-7 times per year. Approved, reasonable and customary travel expenses will be covered.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similiar field, and minimum 13 years experience. Education equivalency substitutions include:
    • Associate's degree and 15 years of experience
    • Master's degree and 11 years of experience
    • Ph.D. and 8 years of experience
  • Experience with lab toolset design and use
  • Proficiency in C++ and C# programming languages
  • Experience with Visual Studio IDE
  • General lab network and system administration experience
  • Experience maintaining lab connectivity across multiple labs and external sources
  • Ability to perform hardware/software maintenance, including firmware and software version management
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to evolving operational requirements

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with Flight Management Systems (FMS) configuration and troubleshooting
  • Intimate knowledge of the Data Comm avionics lab design and construction
  • Proficiency in low-level CSP (Communication Service Provider) protocol development and implementation
  • Ability to understand and apply DO-258A and ARINC 618/620/622 specifications
  • Experience with lab simulator design and operation
  • Familiarity with ARINC 429 interface and FMS integration with avionics systems / bench
  • Experience with CPDLC and DCNS interoperability testing
  • Knowledge of avionics communication protocols beyond ARINC 429
  • Experience with configuration management and version control systems
  • Familiarity with DO-178C or other aviation software assurance standards

Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked. While monetary compensation is important, it's just one component of Noblis' total compensation package.
