Job Description
SkyBridge Tactical is seeking four (4) Destruction Center Operators (Material Handling Laborers) to support the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Security Destruction Center. Operators are responsible for the hands-on collection, sorting, and physical destruction of classified and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) using industrial disintegration equipment, in accordance with DoD and NAVSEA security requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate via phone and/or NMCI email with shipyard points of contact for burn bag pickups
Operate a government-owned vehicle to collect and transport burn bags across the shipyard
Operate two industrial-sized disintegrators (fed via conveyor belt), the external air evacuation system, compactor dumpster, and degausser, along with any future destruction equipment procured
Lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the workday
Traverse a vertical ladder on the outside air system (20+ feet high) for inspection purposes
Handle basic hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches) to inspect and clear equipment jams
Operate backup NSA-approved office shredders at the SDC or remote locations (including shredder trash removal) when disintegrators are down
Conduct inspections across the disintegrator system — ductwork, outside air system, and cutting section — to clear paper clogs and jams
Correctly sort burn bag material prior to entering the disintegrator to prevent unauthorized material from damaging equipment
Report burn bag policy infractions or equipment issues to the Lead/government security oversight
Safeguard all classified and CUI material delivered to the facility; adhere to all security procedures for transport, handling, and storage
Assist in opening, closing, and maintaining the classified storage area
Maintain facility cleanliness at the end of each workday
Perform alternate authorized duties (material staging/sorting, inventory control, chain-of-custody documentation, facility housekeeping) during periods of government equipment downtime
Mandatory Qualifications
Active SECRET security clearance with eligibility for Restricted Data (RD) access, in place prior to start of performance
U.S. citizenship (required for Red NAVSEA badge/RD access)
Ability to pass a background check and obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) / DBIDS credential for shipyard access
Valid driver's license and ability to operate a government-owned vehicle in an industrial setting
Ability to lift/carry 25–50 lbs repeatedly throughout the workday
Ability to climb/traverse a vertical ladder over 20 feet high
Ability to use basic hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches) to inspect and troubleshoot equipment
Ability to solve basic machinery issues (e.g., clearing paper clogs/jams)
Ability to maintain a regular, full-time on-site schedule, Monday–Friday, 0700–1530
Ability to comprehend, learn, and accept feedback/correction; sound judgment and prioritization skills
Willingness and ability to comply with OSHA and Hazardous Energy Control (Lockout/Tagout-Plus) procedures
Ability to use contractor-supplied fall protection equipment and boom lift as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience operating industrial shredding, disintegration, or bulk document/media destruction equipment
Experience performing on a DoD or federal government services contract
Experience working in an industrial, warehouse, or shipyard environment with PPE and fall-protection requirements
Basic mechanical aptitude/experience troubleshooting equipment jams or minor mechanical issues
Familiarity with classified material handling or chain-of-custody procedures
