Location: Dugway, UT (On-Site Secure Environment)
Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance
Employment Type: Long-Term Opportunity

Seeking an experienced Cable Plant Technician to support the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of fiber optic and copper cable infrastructure in both inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) environments. This is a hands-on position supporting critical communications infrastructure in a secure government environment.

Required Qualifications

Active Secret Security Clearance
Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) certification prior to start date
Certified Installer (CI) certification for both copper and fiber prior to start date
Minimum 5 years of experience with copper and fiber optic cable installation, maintenance, and repair
Experience with fiber optic splicing (fusion and mechanical)
Experience with fiber optic testing and troubleshooting using OTDRs, power meters, and cable testers
Experience installing, routing, terminating, and testing fiber and copper cabling systems
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, network diagrams, and cable route maps
Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in trenches, manholes, construction sites, and varying weather conditions

Primary Responsibilities
Fiber & Copper Infrastructure

Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and repair fiber optic and copper cabling systems
Perform fusion and mechanical fiber splicing
Install and maintain Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A cabling
Support single-mode and multi-mode fiber installations
Perform network restoration activities during outages and service interruptions
Install and repair aerial, buried, and conduit-based cable systems

Cable Testing & Troubleshooting

Utilize OTDRs, power meters, cable analyzers, and other testing equipment
Diagnose cable faults, connectivity issues, and network outages
Interpret test results and identify corrective actions
Perform preventative maintenance inspections and diagnostics

Outside Plant Operations

Support aerial, underground, and buried cable deployments
Work with conduits, handholes, pedestals, cabinets, and utility corridors
Perform cable locating activities using electromagnetic and RF locating equipment
Apply utility markings using APWA color code standards
Coordinate with contractors and site personnel to prevent utility strikes and service interruptions

Communications Room & Data Center Support

Install and configure:

Equipment racks and enclosures
Patch panels
UPS systems
Backboards and cable blocks
Line Interface Units (LIUs)
Structured cabling systems


Maintain organized cable management and labeling standards

Documentation & Inventory Management

Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, testing results, and service activities
Update infrastructure records, cable routes, and network documentation
Track inventory usage and materials associated with troubleshooting and installation activities
Ensure documentation is completed according to organizational standards

Safety & Compliance

Follow OSHA regulations and telecommunications industry standards
Comply with excavation permits, utility locate requirements, and confined space entry requirements
Utilize required PPE and adhere to all safety procedures
Support compliance with federal, state, and local telecommunications regulations

Preferred Experience

Extensive ISP/OSP telecommunications experience
Fiber network restoration expertise
Structured cabling deployments in telecommunications rooms and data centers
Utility locating and excavation support experience
Telecommunications project coordination and planning experience
Strong customer service and communication skills

Work Environment

100% on-site in a secure environment
Indoor work within data centers, telecommunications rooms, and communications closets
Outdoor work in construction areas, utility corridors, trenches, and varying weather conditions
Physical work requiring climbing, lifting, carrying equipment, and confined space activities
