Senior Accountant

Position Summary
NALEJ Corporation is seeking a highly capable and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the company’s general accounting operations, financial reporting, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance activities.
The Senior Accountant will play a central role in maintaining accurate financial records, executing monthly and annual close processes, reconciling accounts, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and strengthening internal financial controls. The individual will also help ensure that NALEJ remains prepared for financial, contractual, and government-related audits as the company continues to grow.
This position requires a hands-on accounting professional who can operate effectively in a fast-paced government contracting and technology environment. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting skills with sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to improve processes as the organization scales.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting Operations
Perform and oversee day-to-day general ledger accounting activities.
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and account reclassifications.
Maintain accurate and complete financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Lead or support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.
Prepare balance sheet, bank, credit card, payroll, and general ledger reconciliations.
Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activity for accuracy, completeness, and proper coding.
Monitor cash activity, expenses, revenue recognition, and account balances.
Maintain the chart of accounts and support accurate cost allocation across departments, contracts, projects, and business units.
Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual transactions.
Support payroll accounting, employee expense reporting, and benefit-related reconciliations.
Maintain fixed asset schedules, prepaid expense schedules, and depreciation records.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and supporting schedules.
Assist with management reporting, variance analysis, and financial performance reviews.
Analyze actual financial results against budgets, forecasts, and prior-period performance.
Provide accurate financial information to the Chief Financial Officer and executive leadership.
Support the development of budgets, forecasts, cash-flow projections, and financial models.
Identify financial trends, risks, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improved performance.
Help develop dashboards, reports, and financial metrics that improve executive decision-making.
Ensure financial reporting is timely, accurate, supportable, and consistent across the organization.
Audit, Compliance, and Internal Controls
Coordinate and support external financial audits, tax reviews, and other compliance examinations.
Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, account reconciliations, and responses to auditor requests.
Maintain organized documentation to support audit readiness and transaction traceability.
Assist in the design, implementation, and documentation of internal accounting controls.
Evaluate accounting processes for compliance, consistency, accuracy, and risk.
Identify internal-control deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial requirements.
Assist with accounting policies, standard operating procedures, approval authorities, and documentation requirements.
Support compliance with government-contracting accounting requirements, including appropriate cost segregation, timekeeping, indirect-cost allocation, and documentation.
Assist with preparation for Defense Contract Audit Agency reviews or other government audits, as applicable.
Support annual tax preparation, regulatory filings, and coordination with external accounting and tax professionals.
Monitor changes in accounting standards and recommend appropriate updates to company practices.
Government Contract Accounting Support
Support accounting activities associated with federal government contracts, subcontracts, and commercial agreements.
Assist with direct and indirect cost allocation and maintenance of appropriate cost pools.
Review labor charging, expense allocation, invoicing, and contract-related accounting records.
Help ensure accounting practices align with applicable Federal Acquisition Regulation requirements and contract terms.
Support incurred-cost submissions, indirect-rate calculations, contract reconciliations, and billing documentation, as needed.
Coordinate with Finance, Contracts, Human Resources, Program Management, and Business Development teams to improve financial accuracy and contract compliance.
Support documentation and financial controls related to contract funding, period of performance, labor categories, and allowable costs.
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and reduce manual work.
Improve financial workflows, close procedures, reconciliations, reporting, and documentation.
Support implementation or optimization of accounting, payroll, expense-management, and financial-reporting systems.
Develop repeatable procedures that strengthen accuracy, accountability, and scalability.
Help establish a disciplined financial operating rhythm as NALEJ continues to grow.
Provide guidance and technical accounting support to junior staff and cross-functional partners.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Five or more years of progressive accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and financial-reporting practices.
Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial close processes.
Experience preparing financial statements, audit schedules, and supporting documentation.
Understanding of internal controls, financial compliance, and audit-readiness requirements.
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Ability to analyze complex financial information and identify discrepancies.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated discretion when handling confidential financial and employee information.
Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, or CPA candidate.
Experience working for a federal government contractor.
Familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement, and Defense Contract Audit Agency expectations.
Experience with indirect-rate structures, cost pools, provisional billing rates, or incurred-cost submissions.
Experience supporting financial, regulatory, or government-contract audits.
Knowledge of revenue recognition principles and contract-based accounting.
Experience working in a technology, defense, aerospace, artificial intelligence, or professional-services organization.
Experience with Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or a comparable accounting platform.
