Job Description

The Electrical Distribution Technician is responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of high- and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems supporting airfield and installation operations at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. This position is critical to ensuring the safe, reliable, and continuous operation of electrical infrastructure, including airfield lighting systems that directly support flight operations and mission readiness.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience maintaining electrical distribution systems, airfield lighting infrastructure, and associated control systems in commercial, industrial, or military environments.

Essential Job Functions:

Operate, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and install high- and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems.

Maintain, inspect, test, and repair airfield lighting systems, including:
  • Runway lighting
  • Taxiway lighting
  • Apron lighting
  • Precision approach lighting systems
  • Navigational lighting
  • Airfield lighting control systems

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical distribution equipment, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, underground distribution systems, and associated infrastructure.

Diagnose electrical system malfunctions, isolate root causes, and implement corrective actions to restore operational capability.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and engineering drawings.

Perform testing and commissioning of electrical systems using specialized electrical testing equipment.

Coordinate planned outages and maintenance activities with Airfield Operations and other maintenance disciplines to minimize mission impact.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, work orders, and system documentation.

Ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, U.S. Air Force standards, and applicable environmental and safety requirements.

Respond to emergency power outages and mission-critical electrical failures to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

Maintain tools, testing equipment, and work areas in a safe and operational condition.

Perform additional duties as assigned in support of installation operations.

Required Skills:

Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Active DoD Secret Security Clearance required.

High school diploma or GED.

Current Master Electrician or Journeyman Electrician license.

Minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience working with high- and/or medium-voltage electrical distribution systems.

Minimum five (5) years of experience maintaining airfield lighting systems, including runway, taxiway, apron, navigational lighting, and associated lighting control systems.

Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and repairing electrical distribution systems in an operational environment.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and technical manuals.

Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, and airfield lighting infrastructure.

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and the technical aptitude to quickly learn computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other enterprise software applications.

Must possess a valid U.S. Driver's License.

Valid U.S. Passport preferred.

Must meet all current USCENTCOM Deployment Policy requirements as outlined in the current USCENTCOM Individual and Individual-Unit Deployment Policy.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Qatar Residency Visa.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Must be capable of working in extreme environmental conditions, including high temperatures, dust, humidity, and other austere deployed environments.

Must be willing to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency maintenance requirements as mission needs dictate.

Must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, working at heights, and performing physically demanding electrical maintenance activities.

Travel

100% deployment to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.

Desired Skills:

Experience supporting U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense, or overseas contingency operations.

Experience maintaining FAA or military airfield lighting systems.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification or equivalent.

Experience with underground electrical distribution systems and medium-voltage cable splicing.

Experience operating electrical testing equipment such as insulation resistance testers, cable fault locators, and protective relay testing equipment.

Military or government contractor experience supporting installation infrastructure.
