Job Description
The Airfield Sweeping Technician is responsible for performing airfield sweeping operations and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) removal to ensure runways, taxiways, aprons, ramps, and other aircraft operating surfaces remain safe, clean, and operational. This role is essential to maintaining airfield readiness and supporting continuous flight operations by minimizing FOD hazards that could impact aircraft safety and mission success.
The successful candidate will operate specialized airfield sweeping equipment, conduct routine inspections, perform preventive maintenance, and comply with all U.S. military, host nation, and contractual safety, security, and operational requirements.
Essential Job Functions:
Operate mechanical, regenerative air, and vacuum sweepers used to clean runways, taxiways, aprons, ramps, shoulders, and other aircraft operating surfaces.
Perform Foreign Object Debris (FOD) inspections and removal activities in accordance with established airfield safety procedures and FOD prevention programs.
Conduct visual inspections of airfield pavements before, during, and after sweeping operations to identify FOD, pavement damage, or other operational hazards.
Maintain runways, taxiways, aprons, and associated paved surfaces to support safe aircraft operations and mission readiness.
Coordinate movement area access with Airfield Management and Air Traffic Control (ATC) in accordance with established airfield operating procedures.
Complete daily inspection checklists, equipment logs, maintenance records, and operational reports accurately and in a timely manner.
Perform operator-level preventive maintenance inspections and services (PMCS) on assigned sweeping equipment and vehicles.
Identify, document, and report equipment malfunctions, pavement deficiencies, and safety hazards to supervisors.
Operate equipment safely while complying with airfield driving regulations, movement area procedures, and all applicable safety requirements.
Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to all environmental, safety, security, and force protection policies.
Respond to emergency FOD removal operations and urgent airfield cleaning requirements as directed.
Perform additional duties as assigned in support of airfield and installation operations.
Required Skills:
Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Active DoD Secret Security Clearance required.
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum one (1) to three (3) years of experience supporting airfield operations, airfield maintenance, pavement maintenance, or airfield sweeping operations.
Knowledge of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention principles and airfield safety procedures.
Experience operating heavy equipment or specialized sweeping equipment.
Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance inspections and operator-level servicing of assigned equipment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe operating environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and the technical aptitude to quickly learn computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other enterprise software applications.
Must possess a valid U.S. Driver's License.
Valid U.S. Passport preferred.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Qatar Residency Visa.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
Must be capable of working in extreme environmental conditions, including high temperatures, dust, humidity, and other austere deployed environments.
Must be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, extended hours, and respond to emergency call-outs as mission requirements dictate.
Must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, operating heavy equipment, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors for prolonged periods.
Travel:
100% deployment to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.
Desired Skills:
Experience supporting U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense, or overseas contingency operations.
Experience operating runway sweepers, vacuum sweepers, regenerative air sweepers, or other specialized airfield maintenance equipment.
Familiarity with U.S. Air Force airfield operations, FAA airfield safety standards, or Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or experience operating heavy commercial equipment.
Military or government contractor experience supporting airfield operations.
